Campus Cycling Officer at West College Scotland
With support from a mentor, the CCO will be tasked with the responsibility of designing, planning, implementing and evaluating a cycling project. This will include improving campus facilities, organising events/training, and improving overall engagement in cycling.
The role is hybrid and based in Clydebank Campus.

Background
Cycling Scotland’s vision is a sustainable, inclusive and healthy Scotland where anyone, anywhere can enjoy all the benefits of cycling. Cycling Scotland is a recognised Scottish Charity SCO29760.
The internship is funded by the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and delivered in partnership between Cycling Scotland, Bright Green Business and West College Scotland. Projects supported by the intern will contribute to and align with the key aims of the Active Travel Framework. The Cycling Friendly Campus Award is aimed at encouraging and supporting colleges and universities across Scotland to take a leading role in increasing the number of students and staff traveling by bike.
The Role
Working in partnership with Bright Green Business with the support of the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, Cycling Scotland seeks to identify interns to support cycling development projects in further and higher education campuses across Scotland.
The candidate will take on the role of Campus Cycling Officer (CCO) and support the Sustainability, Health & Wellbeing team, Estates team and/or the Students Association (or other relevant department) in delivering cycling projects and activities aimed at getting students and staff travelling by bicycle.
Key Duties:
1. Support the preparation, development, and delivery of cycling initiatives on campus in order to support behaviour change and progress towards/maintain Cycling Friendly status.
2. Gather and analyse data relating to cycling activity, in order to prepare relevant information and recommendations to colleagues, stakeholders and sponsors.
3. Support the improvement and extension of facilities supporting commuting cycling, such as bicycle storage.
4. Develop and maintain effective partnerships which support the institution’s efforts to make cycling an attractive travel choice, linking in with wider programmes, initiatives, and events.
5. It is expected that the officer will develop capital funding bids for capital infrastructure funding.
6. Establish, develop and/or maintain appropriate communication channel(s) relevant to cycling development projects and events for staff and students.
7. Lead on the design, planning, implementation and evaluation of a cycling project(s) and activities which reflect key priorities and feedback from stakeholder engagement.
8. Using the Cycling Friendly award criteria, assist colleagues to develop and maintain an up-to-date Cycling Action Plan which will form the basis of future funding bids / opportunities and delivery of cycling initiatives.
9. Raise awareness to college schemes aimed at supporting cycling as a commuting mode, review their effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.
10. Develop a communication and engagement plan that aims to provide regular events addressing the needs of staff and students.
The Candidate
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is committed to promoting the benefits of cycling as a healthy, sustainable, and affordable travel option.
Experience of organising and running events would be an advantage whilst good communication skills, initiative, and the ability to engage with varied audiences is essential.
