A private owned global manufacturing organisation, supplying a vast range of high-performance fluid sealing products and associated knowledge-based services to virtually every industry sector. With state-of-the-art skills in materials technology, particularly relating to elastomers, polymers, composites and engineering plastics plus extensive expertise in precision machining of exotic alloys for metallic seals, and tension control fasteners for bolted joints.
Your Role
The Business Development Manager role offers an exciting opportunity to drive high-performance thermoplastic sales growth with both new and existing customers in the UK and Northern Europe, all while being supported by internal sales teams in the UK and Norway. You’ll have the chance to collaborate across James Walker to unlock new business opportunities, but a key aspect of your role will be direct customer interaction, making it truly impactful. Although the role is remote, you’ll travel globally to support customer activities, with regular visits to our Gourock facility. You’ll also take the lead in coaching and mentoring internal sales teams based in UK and Norway, using your coaching skills to elevate performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Responsible for the generation of new and profitable business revenue for high performance thermoplastic and engineered solutions
* Work closely with the internal teams, providing guidance, support, feedback, coaching and motivation
* Form effective relationships with colleagues
* Work closely with the Product, Marketing, Technical and Operations teams in identifying & developing commercial initiatives
* Contribute to the development of the high-performance custom thermoplastic & engineered solutions strategy
* Reporting - Prepare, manage and present sales budgets, pipeline tracking, forecasts and attainment of revenue objectives – growth, margin, etc.
* Manage the process for proposals and presentations of new business opportunities
* Monitor industry and competitor's developments, identifying key trends and synthesising this knowledge to propose actions
* Maximising networking opportunities such as attendance at conferences, events and trade shows to increase awareness of James Walker and develop a network of contacts
* Maintain specified Quality Management procedures and standards consistently
* Continuously demonstrate commitment to learning & self-development
About you
Essential Experience
* At least 5 Years proven experience in sales, especially in a B2B (business-to-business) environment.
* Engineering Background or able to demonstrate a keen interest in engineering understanding
* Business Development in an engineering environment
* Influencing without authority within a matrix environment
* Ability to identify an opportunity, develop a strategy to secure an enquiry and submit a competitive, compelling proposal
* Capacity to discuss engineering details to understand a customers need and act as the voice of the customer with internal teams
* Demonstrate how to lead with emotional intelligence
* Self-motivated with a desire to succeed
* Willingness to travel internationally
* Commercially and financially aware, with a willingness to develop innovative approaches to secure success
Preferred Experience
* Sales team management

* Knowledge of Sealing Technology
* Understanding of Engineering Drawings

* Formal recognised Sales Qualification
* CMI leadership qualification
* HNC/HND or equivalent in a related Engineering subject or equivalent such as Materials Science
