Job Purpose
Reporting to the Head of operations, this role will have responsibility for proactively planning, controlling and coordinating all aspects of the Engineering function to ensure optimum equipment performance efficiency as part of the overall site's performance measures. All practices must be implemented and operate within Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and site policies and procedures as appropriate.
This role is site-based and forms part of a business that recognizes the need for change with major growth ambitions, likely expanding both in the UK and overseas. The role will need to be flexible and provide support as required to capitalize on whatever opportunities arise.
To coordinate the Engineering function to help the site achieve optimal operational efficiency at lowest cost through the delivery of targets against the strategic objectives of the Group Supply function:

Key Responsibilities
* Safety, Quality, Hygiene
* Undertake duties in a responsible manner giving due consideration to Safety, Environmental & Quality procedures, which form part of the Integrated Management System.
* Ensure work undertaken conforms to legislative requirements.
* Embrace a culture of safe behavior and contractor health and safety within the production and engineering areas.
* Support and embrace a culture enhancing behavioral awareness to reduce accidents, incidents, and near misses.
* Asset Management
* Develop efficient and effective asset care programs to champion availability across both sites, standardizing the asset care approach with the drive to ensure effective maintenance systems, in line with the Group PMS Roadmap & the Maturity Matrix site development tool.
* Develop the asset care strategy for both sites around the Princes interpretation of the JIPM model involving AM, PRM, and EEM.
* Drive the transition from reactive to proactive with targets of 80% of Engineering work planned in advance, 20% of engineering time on C.I. with 75% known utilization of engineers.
* Ensure maintenance costs and asset maintenance are transparent and known.
* Develop SAP PM and other systems to drive planning and control and focused improvements.
* Create, implement and manage both maintenance and capital expenditure budgets for the Canning plants, utilizing Princes methodology and Group support to achieve the plants and business requirements.
* Maintain product Food Safety, Legality, Integrity, Authenticity, and Quality standards by ensuring all associated policies and procedures are adhered to.
Stores Management
* Develop effective materials management with optimized levels of spares and stock accuracy and service levels and known cost of asset spares.
* Manage the engineering stores to adhere to Princes Group guidelines and regularly review the supplier base to provide the most cost-effective service.
* Review stock levels to apply the most cost-effective solution with no impact on the Factory’s KPI’s.
* Work within Group KPI framework to drive continuous improvement in working capital management.
Services and Energy Management
* Manage site facilities, ensuring that statutory compliance is adhered to and performance standards are such that best practices are applied for the environmental impact and continuity of supply.
* Work within a site services KPI framework to drive performance standards of Water, Air, Gas, Electricity, and Steam.
* Work within Group Energy strategy framework to drive continuous improvements in energy consumption and reduce costs.
Continuous Improvement
* Promote and drive 5S and GMP, drive RCA, and other continuous improvement tools to identify areas for improvement and establish targets to optimize plant productive capability.
* Systematically review performance, identifying and implementing opportunities to improve equipment reliability and efficiency using available tools. Develop and manage agreed projects and ensure completion to time and budget, ensuring minimal disruption to production units.
* Evoke a proactive approach to change and improvements in site performance.
* Challenge the status quo, driving a culture of best practice and continuous improvement that focuses on the elimination of waste in all forms.
Manage/Develop People
* Ensure that the engineering workforce is appropriately recruited, trained, and managed to effectively and safely deliver their tasks, ensuring stability and continuity consistent with the long-term needs of the factory.
* Align self and deploy resources appropriately to meet site and group strategy.
* Continually assess and develop the team to achieve Canning operational goals.
* Challenge work practices and processes to achieve improved operational performance.
* Manage, develop, and motivate engineering teams, ensuring they have the appropriate skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to carry out engineering projects effectively.
* Conduct oneself in line with Group values and behaviors at all times.
* Develop a culture of ownership within the team for the ongoing development of the facilities.
Technical Leadership
* Act as the first point of technical support for Operations and Shift managers. Apply defined best practices in all engineering and maintenance matters. Develop and apply specialist technical skills in support of factory KPI’s.
* Ensure that all engineering team leaders and technicians fully understand the fundamentals of production processes at the factory and that new technology and management procedures are introduced to improve the cost base and competitive position of the factory.
Carry out any other tasks as may be reasonably requested by your line manager. These are the key daily tasks, not a comprehensive list of all tasks undertaken by the jobholder. Flexibility is required by the business & this will be agreed with the individual’s line manager.
Experience Required
* Graduate or of Graduate calibre, ideally with a further engineering qualification, hands-on experience with a demonstrable track record of success.
* Demonstrable track record of achieving results / managing change.
* Strong operational grounding within a complex fast-moving manufacturing environment.
* Familiarity with principles of World Class Manufacturing environments / Continuous Improvement methodologies.
* Track record of leadership in planning and implementing capital investment in production facilities.
* Experience of delivering results against financial targets, service levels, and safety standards.
* Good working knowledge of operating systems such as SAP, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience of managing people and dealing with Trade Unions.
* Experience of operating utilities plant and project management.
* Practical electrical engineering experience including legislation - Preferable.
* Previous experience of control engineering preferable.
