Role Description
* Sound understanding of customs legislation and legal requirements to facilitate smooth flow of trade.
* Provide advice and training to the Group on all matters relating to customs procedures, preference, origin, and restrictions regarding both imports and exports.
* To represent Princes at meetings with Trade and Government bodies in relation to legislative changes to regulatory controls of international trade. To advise the business and implement required processes to maintain compliance.
* To monitor and audit the controls necessary to prevent the importation of illegal, unreported, and unregulated fish.
* To monitor and audit the Groups systems and processes to ensure compliance with customs and other regulators requirements.
* Liaising with customers at a senior level to ensure that they have the correct information to adhere to the correct legislation to ensure smooth cross-border trade.
* Negotiating contractual rates for the service provision of vets and associated paperwork for international trade.
* Managing direct customer, factory, vet and supplier contacts through effective networking and strong communication skills to facilitate effective trade both to and from GB.
Role Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide advice to the Group on tariff codes, duties, and regulatory requirements. Ensure the sales team is aware of potential restrictions and licensing requirements for specific countries. Deal with ad hoc requests from the Group in relation to international trade as required.
* Tariff classify goods for the Group as required and advise on applying customs regimes, which result in duty savings.
* Ensure regular checks are carried out on documents from fish suppliers as part of our IUU due diligence process. Query any discrepancies with buyers, fish sustainability team, and suppliers. Make recommendations as appropriate to enhance these controls.
* Negotiate, set up, and manage ongoing arrangements for vets to allow POAO to be exported from GB including EHC sign off and GEFs attestations.
* Provide technical and legislative expertise to ensure delivery paperwork is compliant.
* Raise EHCs / CHED / STAMNI as required supporting sales of Product of Animal Origin.
* Ensure legal compliance to uphold all customer standards. Produce and share preferential declarations as required.
* Understand IT systems to identify cost-saving opportunities to remove non-value add activities across the technical paperwork provision for the entire supply chain.
* Own the process flow for technical paperwork provision to allow export to occur across several Incoterms and customers.
* Ensure NPD and recipe changes are captured in a timely manner to ensure all paperwork associated with export is compliant when dispatched.
* Collaborate closely with customer technical teams to ensure they are fully briefed on their requirements for paperwork when handling Princes products to ensure a smooth flow of goods including the impact of changes to product specifications.
* Manage and maintain libraries of base data for each export route e.g., Manufacturers declarations, GEFS Schedules/attestations, and private attestation data sheets.
* Develop good business relations with regulators including HMRC, Port Health Defra, Marine Management, RPA etc. Keep abreast of Government and EC policy regulations through various sources and pass on relevant information to key business personnel.
* Maintain product Food Safety, Legality, Integrity, Authenticity, and Quality standards by ensuring all associated policies and procedures are adhered to.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
* Educated to Degree level or equivalent in International Trade.
* Detailed, extensive understanding of legislation, procedures & regimes associated with export and import documentation requirements.
* Extensive experience with APHA and TRACES systems in generating EHC and supporting documentation.
* The ability to operate internal and external systems to gather and communicate international trade relevant product information.
* Strong collaboration, influencing, and teamwork skills plus a level of mental resilience to support dealing with a dynamic changing environment.
* Ability to communicate at all levels, with authority.
* Demonstrable ability to meet tight and demanding deadlines.
* Demonstrable project management skills.
* Demonstrable people management skills.
* Working knowledge of SAP would be an advantage.
* Extensive knowledge & experience in Customs/EU procedures, regimes, legislation, and Regulatory compliance.
