Description:
Are you a Legal Services Manager looking for your next challenge or a talented lawyer looking for an opportunity to progress to the next stage in your career to lead and shape a new legal team? If so, we want to hear from you.
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Law and Governance, you will lead a small friendly legal team responsible for a varied, interesting and challenging workload. The successful applicant will also act as the council’s Deputy Monitoring Officer.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive and innovative team of lawyers. You will be key to leading on the council’s legal services and provide high quality, professional advice across the council which is proactive and responsive to the council’s requirement.
In addition to the above, you will also be required to provide advice and support to complex and high-risk cases such as commercial, procurement, planning, property, civil and criminal litigation.
As a Deputy Monitoring Officer, you will be required to support the council in ensuring compliance with its governance arrangements and its constitution, including sign off of reports, briefings as and when required, and any other meetings as directed. You will also attend and deputise for the Assistant Director of Legal & Governance at meetings to advise on corporate, legal and probity issues and to promote best practice and good order in such meetings.
Applications are welcomed from Solicitors, Barristers or Legal Executives, with previous local government experience being desirable but not necessary. We believe in fostering a culture of flexibility, and we're open to discussing various working arrangements. Plus, our impressive employee benefits package includes up to 36 days of annual leave (after 5 years of local government service) and a generous pension contribution. Efficient hybrid-working arrangements are in place, ensuring that you can work comfortably and effectively from home when required.
If you're ready to take the next step in your legal career, we want to hear from you. For an informal discussion about the post, please contact via email to Sameera Khan at skhan@mansfield.gov.uk.
