Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are currently seeking an enthusiastic and well motivated mammographer. Individuals looking to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Mammography are welcome to apply. The post holder will image both Breast Screening clients as part of the South Lancashire Breast Screening Programme and symptomatic patients at Thomas Linacre Outpatients Centre and Leigh Infirmary. The post holder is required to travel to the Breast Screening base at Thomas Linacre Outpatients Centre, Leigh Infirmary and the mobile units across South Lancashire and Wigan. The department has three mobile vans that rotate between: Penwortham, Leyland, Wigan, Pemberton, Skelmersdale, Ormskirk, Tarleton, Leigh, Ince and Chorley. The department uses Hologic equipment and has recently started to perform MRI- guided breast biopsies at Leigh Infirmary. To undertake this post, you must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle. Should you not meet this requirement due to a disability, you are of course able to apply and a discussion regarding whether reasonable adjustments could be made to the role would take place before any offer is confirmed. Qualifications will be required at interview and during onboarding process. Perform all mammographic examinations to the highest standard in line with the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) guidelines. Actively participate and be responsible for equipment quality control and safety checks, documenting all test parameters and reporting any equipment faults and/or test results outside acceptable limits to the QA Radiographer and Line Manager. Perform assessment mammography and provide technical and clinical assistance in interventional mammography including stereotactic core biopsies and wire localisations. To assist radiologists with MRI Biopsies. Provide professional support, guidance and leadership to less experienced members of staff, including trainee mammographers, assistant practitioners, mammography helpers, health care assistants and radiography students. Adhere to departmental protocols and procedures including Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR17) and Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R 2018). Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide the highest standards of patient care. Encourage re-attendance for subsequent screening rounds by using interpersonal skills and offering support and advice, particularly to agitated and anxious clients. Working within stressful situations associated with the receipt of “bad news”.
