My client, a world leader in the defence sector and supplier of Missiles and Missile Systems, requires a Senior Motor Control Systems Engineer to join their team, leading the design, development and validation of embedded control systems across a range of actuator products.
Senior Motor Control Systems Engineer
The Senior Motor Control Systems Engineer will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary design team, owning the design, development and proving of control algorithms, ensuring that customer performance requirements are met. This role offers the opportunity to influence the complete System architecture including Electronics, Mechanical and Software design disciplines to ensure the needs of the control system design. You will experience product development across the full product lifecycle, taking a design from initial concept or technology development through qualification activities and into production.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop control algorithms for both analogue and digital systems, typically in the control of BLDC motors.
2. Model systems and undertake performance analysis of the selected control algorithm.
3. Derive sub-system requirements (mechanical, electronics, software).
4. Identify suitable electro-mechanical components (electric motors and feedback sensors) working co-operatively with suppliers where needed.
5. Define design proving plans, design proving testing and subsequent data analysis.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, applicants will have experience in:
1. Design and development of control algorithms for digital control systems.
2. Use of the MATLAB / Simulink toolset and Embedded Coder for the generation of control algorithms ready for deployment within systems (ideally direct experience in the control of BLDC motors).
3. Modelling complex real world electronic and mechanical systems such as feedback sensors, motors, drivetrains and drive electronics.
In addition, the following would be beneficial:
1. Ability to generate sub-system or component requirements from a set of customer requirements in support of system architecture development.
2. Knowledge of electric motors and drive / commutation strategies e.g., Field Oriented Control (FOC) or Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) techniques.
3. Understanding of DO-178C or DO-331 standards and the code generation processes specified.
