We are seeking a skilled Performance Engineer to join a leading financial services client for a long-term, on-site contract opportunity. The successful candidate will be joining a high-level, critical team responsible for managing incidents, problems, and changes within the trading side of the organization.
You will identify opportunities to enhance application stability and improve performance or operational workflows. By implementing effective incident follow-ups, you will aim to improve alerting mechanisms and reduce the impact and duration of incidents. Ensuring business continuity and enhancing production stability will be key priorities. Additionally, you will communicate effectively with all stakeholders regarding any production incidents or changes, ensuring transparency and collaboration.
The successful candidate should possess strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify underlying problems and assess their potential impact. Experience in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and configuration management is essential. You should be adept at capacity management, analysing current metrics, identifying trends, and pinpointing bottlenecks.
The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously is crucial. You should have a proven track record of problem-solving in a production environment, including identifying patterns, analysing root causes, and proposing effective solutions.
To excel in this role, excellent communication skills are necessary to articulate both the technical and functional aspects of production problems. Experience with relational database technologies such as Sybase and DB2, scheduling tools like AutoSys, and proficiency in Java and UNIX, is required.
Must-haves
- 5+ years' experience in Support / Performance Engineering
- Expert in relational databases and relevant tools, including DB2, Sybase, or IQ
- Excellent analytical skills and critical reasoning
- Demonstrated understanding and experience with Java
- Strength in incident management; need to be well versed in investigating causes, providing fixes, and explaining problems
- Experience working with high volume of data and real-time processing
- Experience working in a high-stakes, fast-paced environment
