This is an exciting opportunity for an existing member of staff at Westmorland and Furness Council to develop their public health career and take an important leadership role in making Westmorland and Furness a great place to live, work and thrive.
We are seeking to appoint a Public Health Senior Manager who will be part of the Public Health Senior Leadership Team, working alongside two Consultants in Public Health and the Service Manager – Health and Wellbeing Team. This is a full-time post, working across the Council, community and wider partners to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of our communities and address inequality. You will have the opportunity to shape, influence and lead key areas of work within the Council Plan and our emerging Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
As well as delivering the Council’s statutory duties, you will be responsible for shaping and commissioning significant strategic programmes and services and working with our local communities and partners to lead and enable change. You will have the opportunities to shape and develop our priorities and ways of working as a team, working as part of a Council that is committed to placing people at the centre of everything we do and to enabling our residents to lead healthy, happy lives.
This is a development post for someone wishing to join the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) as a Public Health Specialist. You will already have a Masters in Public Health and will be willing to commit to achieving UKPHR’s Specialist Registration by Portfolio Assessment (SRbPA) within three years of starting in post.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, political acumen and the ability to work flexibly across the three domains of public health practice are all essential requirements of this post.
