The Focus of your role:
We are seeking a Deputy Autos Products Editor for our Content Commerce team as soon as possible. Responsible for idea creation and content curation across Parkers.co.uk and Car Magazine’s product site, this role primarily focuses on hitting agreed targets for reach and commerce content. You’ll become an expert and ambassador in cutting-edge website best practices, be able to communicate effectively with SEO teams and developers and relay this to a non-technical team of writers. This role also involves liaising with the Content Commerce Editor to continue the delivery of the digital strategy, managing the running of the CoCo team alongside the Parkers and Car editorial teams. Helping the continuous growth of the Autos Content Commerce portfolio and managing a team accordingly is a key part of this role. You will also support recruitment, onboarding and developing existing junior team members.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Using your journalistic and industry experience, you will help the Commercial Content Editor to manage and develop members of the digital editorial team, including setting and monitoring team KPIs, attending regular 121 meetings and mentoring junior writers.
2. Managing the day-to-day running of Parkers and Car digital strategy and your direct reports.
3. Supporting the editor with creating, planning and implementing the content strategy, drawing on expertise from around the business to ensure the subjects we cover are relevant and topical.
4. Editing, creating and optimising high-quality and helpful autos content that precisely meets the needs of our audience.
5. Researching and planning comprehensive product tests and writing buyers’ guides in line with current best practice and SEO standards. This will include more complex and research-intensive topics and formats.
6. Creating accompanying photographic material to provide our users with the best offers tailored to their needs.
7. Customising content for various digital platforms, including email, considering the unique requirements and best practices for each.
8. Running the autos strategy on sales events like Prime Day and Black Friday, with support from the Commercial Content Editor.
9. Working in close collaboration with the wider editorial team, audience development and SEO management.
What you'll bring:
1. You know what our users want, have a good feel for topics, have in-depth specialist knowledge and can also prepare complex content appealingly and understandably for our users.
2. You have sophisticated SEO knowledge and know how to get content to rank.
3. You have vast experience in writing news articles, in-depth features, product tests and reviews and know how to support best and advise readers in their purchasing decisions.
4. You are familiar with common content KPIs and can use them to evaluate and optimise article performance.
5. You are data fluent and have a thorough knowledge of analytics tools and how to use them to drive or improve content and rankings.
6. You have a hunger to lead, along with a collaborative mindset, a can-do attitude and a willingness to help the team evolve.
7. Your writing and communication skills are of the highest standard.
8. You can create clear and well-presented photography to support articles and are happy to appear in the content when necessary.
9. You are self-motivated, display excellent time management, understand prioritisation, are self-organised and have a hands-on mentality.
