The Region Services team redefines the way AWS designs, builds, and operates AWS regions to enable new AWS Cloud Infrastructure and Services offerings to customers across every industry and of every size, including start-ups, enterprises, and public sector organizations.
This position can be based at our Sydney or Melbourne office locations.
Key job responsibilities
1. Identify Builder operational pain points from disparate data and drive actions to resolve them. Examples include: creation, improvement, simplification, and elimination of processes. Knowing when to create a solution vs. improving existing tools.
2. Hire and Develop the Best leaders at AWS by leveraging your technical ability to identify outcomes, design project plans, and drive the right actions to build the technical acumen on the team.
3. Collaborate and learn from world-class leaders to meet world-class challenges, every day.
4. Hire, train, and grow new AWS engineers.
5. Drive continual improvement in systems operations through tool building and automation.
6. Drive root cause analyses, in collaboration with software development teams, as well as influencing local development to improve operational performance.
7. Report on the health of these services at an executive level.
8. Meet with internal and external customers to develop relationships and clarify requirements and schedules.
9. Work in an environment where operational excellence is truly the first priority, and where the degree of automation is above bar.
10. Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation to troubleshoot high severity issues.
About the team
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. 7+ years of relevant hands-on systems engineering and administrative experience in networking, storage, operating systems.
2. 3+ years experience as the systems engineering and operations leader operating in a 24x7 environment.
3. Demonstrated success building and leading teams.
4. This position requires that the candidate selected be an Australian citizen and hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Strong systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems).
2. Experience building tools and/or services with Java, Python or Perl.
3. Leading development life cycle processes and best practices, esp. in the areas of deployment automation and monitoring.
4. Experience with distributed systems at scale.
