Locum Consultant in Critical Care and Anaesthesia

The opportunity has arisen for a full-time locum Consultant in Critical Care and Anaesthesia to meet the demand for Anaesthetic services at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. This will be based at Harrogate District Hospital and Wharfedale Hospital. This is a six-month locum post, joining the existing 19 Consultants and 15 SAS doctors in Anaesthesia. The locum Consultant will take part in the out-of-hours Critical Care Consultant on-call rota.
Main Duties of the Job
Duties & Responsibilities of the Post
1. Provision of a comprehensive anaesthesia service to elective operating lists for patients aged 2 years and above (including, but not limited to, preoperative assessment, intraoperative care, and postoperative prescriptions).
2. Provision of high-quality consultant-delivered care to critically ill patients and those at risk of becoming critically ill.
3. Support for the Trust's various medical emergency teams (for example, adult and paediatric 'crash' teams, and the trauma team).
4. Participate in the Critical Care on-call rota providing out-of-hours emergency cover for the critical care unit including transfers where needed.
5. Regularly devote time for the training of junior medical staff and students, contributing as appropriate to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education.
6. Provide clinical leadership and supervision to the nursing and support staff within the team.
7. Participate in MDT working.
8. Participate in audit with the support of the Trust Clinical Governance Department.
9. Participate in the provision of shared cover with colleagues for the absence of consultant colleagues, except for prolonged absence, when a locum may be necessary.
10. Provide continuing clinical responsibility for patients under his/her care.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview.
* FRCA or equivalent.
* ALS or ATLS.
* Instructor for ALS or ATLS.
Clinical Experience
* Five years supervised training in an appropriate training programme.
* Experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the job plan.
* Ability to maintain clinical credibility and authority with a multi-professional team, including senior trainees.
* Ability to effectively organise and manage clinical workload.
* Evidence of service development project(s).
* Experience in a leadership role.
