Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse with demonstrable clinical experience in Specialist Palliative Care who is able to function well in a team as well as under their own initiative and who can respond to changing service priorities.
The Specialist Palliative Care team work 9-5 seven days a week; we do however also cover AED, where we deliver Specialist Palliative Care at the front door. This service covers 8-8.30pm. You will be expected to rotate between the 2 services.
You will deliver and support high standards of clinical care both as a direct care giver and indirectly through the support and education of the wider workforce.
As our service provision is seven days a week, you must be able to work over the seven-day period.

* Involve patients and carers/relatives in the planning and delivery of care and development of services.
* Monitor investigation results, initiating further assessment/review of treatment pathway as required.
* Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure patient needs are met, especially in relation to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.
* Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers/relatives, and professionals across health and social services.
* Contribute to the health promotion agenda with the local health economy.
* To undertake the role of non-medical prescriber in line with National and Local standards and to embed quality assurance processes in such activities.
Administrative Responsibilities
* To ensure records are kept tidy, stored and/or shared in accordance with good Information Governance.
Teaching & Training Responsibilities
* Identify learning needs, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of education to meet identified need.
* Participate in the education of pre and post registered nurses, medical staff, AHPs, patients and carers, and participate in curriculum development where appropriate.
* Address specific health targets e.g., CHI, NICE Guidance, NSF related to own area of practice through education.
* Ensure own compliance and compliance of others with regards to mandatory training and PREP requirements.
* Undertake clinical supervision of nursing colleagues on an individual or group basis.
Line Management/Supervisory Responsibilities
* Provide specialist, expert clinical knowledge to clinical colleagues, patients and carers/relatives.
* Promote patient and public involvement activities in the specialist area, leading to service improvement.

* Responsible for the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines relevant to own area of work.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* Registered Nurse / Current professional registration.
* Educated to Diploma/Degree level.
* Post-registration qualification in specialist area or evidence of relevant experience related to specialty.
* Teaching and assessing qualification or relevant experience.
* Advanced communication skills Certificate or equivalent qualification/experience.
* Non-Medical Prescribing V300 or willingness to work towards.
Knowledge & Experience Essential
* Substantial clinical experience in specialty or cancer related area.
* Relevant experience at Band 6 or above.
* Participation in service development and implementation of change.
* Evidence of working effectively with clinicians and the MDT.
* Evidence of effective problem solving.
* Understanding of research and Evidence Based Practice.
* Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area.
Skills Essential
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Able to influence and overcome resistance through application of advanced communication skills.
* Able to analyse data and provide written reports.
* Intermediate IT skills in word processing and spreadsheets.
* Able to manage work autonomously.
* Knowledge of professional and NHS issues, and policy relating to specialist area.
