Your future role
The role comprises leading and co-ordinating a team of Fleet Maintenance Engineers at Laira Train Maintenance Depot in Plymouth, providing technical support to our Train Operator and Maintainer customer (Great Western Railway) to deliver a safe, reliable, and cost-efficient fleet of Class 175 rail vehicles. The role is approximately split 50:50 between engineering and team leadership activities and if successful you will report directly into Alstom’s Fleet Maintenance Engineering Manager for UK diesel fleets.
We’ll look to you for:
1. As an integral part of the Project Core Team, understand the required deliverables for the Fleet Maintenance Engineering team to support the Project’s business objectives.
2. Use effective project planning and governance structure to organise and co-ordinate the team to deliver its key business objectives on a day-to-day basis, feeding into core team governance activities as required.
3. Primary interface with the customer for project level engineering activities and governance, including supporting periodic technical review meetings.
4. Act as a technical authority for the team to review/approve change and a point for escalation for the team to resolve roadblocks/conflict with (internal and external) customers and suppliers.
5. Lead the development and delivery of engineering change to improve fleet/system reliability performance, reduce cost of maintenance & deliver customer variation solutions.
6. Support the identification and implementation of safe, cost effective, containments and countermeasures to identified product safety issues.
7. Lead the planning and delivery readiness (inc. BoM’s, work instructions & configuration) for light and heavy maintenance activities, as defined by the Vehicle Maintenance Schedule.
8. Ensure that the specified fleet maintenance regime is certificated, adhered to, and complies with all relevant legislation, and associated limitations are effectively managed.
9. Support depot Operations teams in resolving arising fleet issues – this includes the requirement to undertake out of hours duties if required.

1. Ideally educated to Degree level in an engineering/technical discipline.
2. Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it.
3. Significant experience in a similar role.
4. Strong organisational, resource management and team development skills.
5. Strong engineering/technical knowledge of traction and rolling stock systems and maintenance policies/practices.
6. Strong project management and stakeholder management skills.
7. Strong business and commercial acumen.
8. Experience in problem solving techniques.
9. Experience in fleet maintenance or asset management environment.
10. Experience in delivering rail vehicle engineering change, including risk assessments and approvals.
11. Experience of Product Introduction.
12. Experience of Depot Operations.
13. Knowledge of rail industry legislation, standards and safety case obligations.
