Job summary We are moving to a brand new, state of the art laboratory in 2025 and are looking to expand our workforce before that move. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Histopathology Department in the role of a Biomedical Scientist. You will work as part of a large and enthusiastic team, contributing to a wide variety of procedures in a busy environment. Tasks require a meticulous attention to detail and a high level of manual dexterity. Patient focus and a drive for quality, with an understanding of the importance of accurate test results are essential. You will be highly organised with good time management skills and self-motivation, but also need a flexible approach to work well within a team. Experience of diagnostic Histopathology laboratory work is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided. Main duties of the job Performs a wide range of routine healthcare science activities, whilst supporting junior members of staff including specimen receipt, specimen preparation including assisting pathologists at cut-up, embedding and microtomy of surgical tissue, slide collation, specimen storage and maintenance of equipment Maintains clinical and maintenance records in relation to activities carried out. Demonstrate own duties to new or less experienced employees. To work flexibly in reflection of service needs this may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7 days per week service. The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include urine, faeces, and respiratory secretions.
