Postdoctoral Scientist
Salary £41,344 per annum
Fixed term, 3 years
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
The position is for a Postdoctoral Scientist with expertise on kinases, protein biochemistry, and enzymology. You will be responsible for expressing, purifying kinases, and analyzing the mechanism of action of newly discovered small molecule activators using biochemical, enzymatic, and cell-based assays.
Dr. Anne Bertolotti’s pioneering research programme focuses on innovative approaches to boost stress signaling pathways to increase cellular resilience and protect from diverse diseases including neurodegenerative diseases. You will provide fundamental mechanistic insights on these important enzymes and expand on the next generation of small-molecule activating kinases.
You will join a strong inter-disciplinary team at the LMB, which has broad expertise extending from biochemistry, structural, chemical, molecular and cell biology through to transgenic animal models of degenerative diseases. The team also has an excellent record of innovative basic research leading to applications in medicine.
You will be ambitious, creative, and fearless, able to invent new approaches to explore the unknown. You will have a PhD in biochemistry or be due to complete doctoral studies within 6 months of applying. Relevant experience is required, and this must be best attested by at least one impactful and original publication. Interests in kinases and signaling are essential.
You will enjoy interacting with a dynamic interdisciplinary team sharing a passion for science and a commitment to explore the unknown.
This is a three-year training and development position suitable for you if you have recently completed your doctoral studies, or you are looking to move into a new research discipline and/or need to further develop your research skills. Working with our world-class scientists, you will be working in an Institute renowned for its excellent scientific facilities and high-quality research.
The LMB has a collaborative working culture and state-of-the-art building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We have on-site parking, cycle enclosures, and excellent public transport links to the site. We have a staff restaurant with a roof terrace and access to a Campus nursery and sports and social facilities. You will be eligible to join our defined benefit pension scheme with an employer contribution of 16%, holiday entitlement of 40.5 days per annum (including bank holidays and privilege days), and a generous employee discount scheme. We are also committed to providing training and development opportunities including support towards role-related qualifications.
The LMB is a world-class research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). This role qualifies for endorsement by UKRI for a UK Global Talent Visa, for which the successful applicant is likely to be eligible to apply. Immigration costs (visa and health surcharge) can be reclaimed from UKRI after taking up the post (terms and conditions apply).
