To carry out Service, Maintenance and Repairs (SMR) to run safely, efficiently and reliably and work across a range of cars, HGV vehicles, light commercial, and motorcycles. If successful, you will be joining West Midlands Police's Fleet Services team and working alongside manufacturers to the highest standard. At short notice, you may be asked to work outside normal working hours to assist with ongoing force operations.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Motor Vehicle Technician to carry out Service, Maintenance and Repairs to include car, motorcycle, light commercial and HGV (SMR).
2. Duties will include the day-to-day diagnosis, repair and servicing (SMR) of police vehicles and ancillary equipment, including light commercial vehicles and the preparation/de-preparation of vehicles and covert equipment, design and installation of ANPR within the Prep Shop after training.
3. Complete a full inspection/service, taking due consideration to Police driving requirements against the optimum use of parts. Diagnose, repair and replace major components including Police equipment.
4. Modification of vehicles for Police use including all electrical equipment.
5. Road test vehicles. Work within industry standard times. Complete job cards electronically. Assist Senior Technician with vehicle examinations before and after contract repairs.
6. To provide a mobile service at locations designated by the Senior Technician.
7. Completion of job records with Fleet Management system (Tranman).
8. Able to work independently.
Essential Skills:
1. City & Guilds parts 1,2 and 3, NVQ Level 1,2 and 3 or ONC/HNC.
2. Demonstrate you have time served mechanical experience, preferably within a Manufacturer's workshop environment.
3. To have used an electronic job processing system.
4. Valid and clean driving license including Cat B.
5. Demonstrate effective verbal, written and communication skills.
6. To be computer literate.
7. Able to use the latest diagnostic equipment.
Desirable Skills:
1. Valid and clean driving license, including Cat A.
2. To have experience working with EVs.
3. HGV driving license.
Vetting:
Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, which will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.
