The Opportunity:
Laing O'Rourke's Technology + Innovation Function have an exciting new role within their Digital Bridges Team. The role sits within the Infrastructure DfMA workstream and will balance construction product development and the advancement of our digital capabilities for product-led design.
What will the role look like?
Laing O'Rourke has developed a product-led approach for bridge construction enabled by digital automation and a bridge kit-of-parts. This method is delivering strong, repeatable benefits including increased efficiency and safer construction. We are scaling our methodology to do more in the world of bridges and got further into other construction sectors.
The work will enhance our product-led capability in bridge construction and support the exploration of, and transfer of knowledge into, other strategic growth areas for the business. The role will also support the development of Digital Toolkits for design automation and configuration, and our decarbonisation strategy.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
Examples of the activities that will be required as part of this role:
* Developing new products for the modular bridge kit of parts.
* Developing new infrastructure products and methods for other sectors.
* Identifying improvements/enhancements to existing products and solutions.
* Working with project teams to deploy product-led solutions across different sectors.
* Leading research to evaluate opportunities, tackle challenges and explore new materials.
* Guiding the development of design automation and configuration software.
* Being an ambassador for modern methods of construction (MMC).
* Managing innovation projects and pitching ideas, and creating business cases.
C ore skills required:
* Civil/Structural Engineering or Product design experience.
* Familiarity with reinforced concrete design and structural steelwork.
* Good understanding of construction processes, stakeholders and workflows
* Experienced with modelling software (preferably Solidworks) and keen to extend their learning (additional training to be provided)
* Able to use structural analysis or simulation tools in design.
* Project Management experience at any scale
* Good communicator with high proficiency in written and spoken English.
Desirable skills
* Experienced in the design and analysis of bridge/civil infrastructure with knowledge of UK standards, Eurocodes and client requirements in a relevant domain.
* Experience with parametric design and modelling tools
* Knowledge of or experience in design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA)
* Construction site / project experience
* Professionally qualified / chartered by a recognised body in the UK.
