Chassis Subject Matter Expert 2 positions are available; Ergonomics Components SME: Covers a wide range of components and systems; All hand controls, bars, all foot controls, control plates, gear linkage, side stand and centre stands. Fabrications SME: Cover all fabricated parts, in-house manufactured, and purchased, and will include fuel tanks. Job role overview: Non-embedded Chassis SME’s reporting into the Chief Engineer – Chassis within Engineering Services and supporting Vehicle Teams in all phases of the design and development process to ensure robustness of design and efficient test validation to develop the quality of our products and prevent development and in service quality issues. Both positions will involve a high degree of collaboration with our Manufacturing areas, Quality and Purchase Departments together with detailed supplier interaction and development. The candidates should have direct experience of designing parts for these two fields with a proven ability to rapidly adapt to, and understand, new areas outside of their previous experience. They must be a proven problem solver with a pragmatic attitude who can progress efficiently through issues that result in well thought out, robust and appropriate solutions. They must be comfortable with the integration of styling and engineering that result in parts that are both well engineered, and aesthetically suitable for out premium product line up. They must be an organised and methodical Engineer who ensures processes and procedures are evolved and updated as required, to ensure we maintain best practice across the Design Department. They must be a good communicator, both within Design but also across all Departments, with the ability to condense complex issues into easy-to-understand key points. Duties and Responsibilities: Support Vehicle Teams in design and development of their area(s) of Chassis Specialism. This will be through Working Group meetings, 1-2-1 reviews, CAD reviews, scheme reviews, drawing reviews, document reviews and testing support as appropriate. Ensure a consistent approach is taken to Chassis design through close co-ordination with the Chief Engineers and Vehicle Teams. Coach and mentor more Junior Engineers to broaden the level of understanding within the Department. Continuous improvement to advance design procedures, best practice and efficiency improvements. Review and approve procedures, technical reports, specifications and drawings etc. Keep up to date with latest developments and identify any opportunities that could be taken as a result. Support new technology investigations as required. To deputise for the Chief Engineer Powertrain as required To undertake and assist with projects as required by your manager. Qualifications: BEng or MEng in an engineering related field, or higher. Experience: Essential Proficient in Microsoft Packages including Excel, Word and Outlook. Proven work experience in a design engineering environment for chassis design Extremely strong work experience with designing parts for these two fields. Undisputed understanding of the fullcycle design process and possible issues which may occur at each stage, and resolutions for this. A proven ability to rapidly adapt to, and understand, new areas outside of their previous experience. Experience with mentoring engineers at the beginning of their careers Experience with supporting internal department teams with R&D
