Do you want to be part of a business that says ‘No’ to fossil fuel projects? Are you a Chartered Health & Safety professional? Can you provide CDM guidance and support to multi-discipline project teams? Then, join us to shape a safe and sustainable world.
Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow
To support growth within our business through recent project wins, we are looking for a CDM Lead to join us. Working on a range of Infrastructure and Energy projects, you’ll provide safety leadership and deliver CDM training to our project teams and JV partners.
On a day-to-day basis, you'll be responsible for:
* Supporting COWI UK to undertake the Designer and Principal Designer (PD) roles as laid out within CDM2015, taking all relevant good practice protocols into account.
* Delivering CDM training to UK staff and non-UK staff working on UK projects to ensure sound understanding of the principles, regulations and relevant COWI UK processes.
* Providing leadership, advice and assistance to ensure COWI UK's organisational compliance with the CDM Regulations 2015.
* Identifying ways to increase COWI's ability to fulfil the role of PD where appropriate.
* Providing support and guidance to the design teams for them to plan, coordinate and monitor the CDM aspects of the Preconstruction phase of the project, taking into account the principles of prevention and in the completion of CDM Risk Registers.
* Providing advice to the Bid team in identifying additional contractual obligations involving the provision of additional CDM Client support services.
* Supporting the review and assessment of competency (skills, knowledge, experience and organisational capability) of external designers, consultants and contractors being considered for appointment, as appropriate.
* Assisting in ensuring that everyone involved in the pre-construction phase communicates and collaborates, coordinating their work as required to minimise health and safety risks.
* Undertaking project CDM audits and reporting findings to the Head of Health and Safety and COWI UK Senior Leadership Team where concerns arise or where improvements should be made to current procedures.
* Identifying and assisting to deliver innovation and efficiency initiatives relating to risk reduction through CDM and wider Safety in Design Initiatives.
Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future.
The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners, or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.
On top of that, you’ll have:
* HSE Chartership or as a minimum have a Cert. IOSH level or similar accreditation and be working towards full chartership.
* Demonstrable knowledge of Health and Safety in Infrastructure & Construction and a relevant qualification, such as NEBOSH.
* A CDM related qualification such as ICE H&S Register, MaPS.
* A proven history of carrying out design reviews on large infrastructure projects.
* The ability to demonstrate management and coordination skills required of a PD, with the ability to challenge and influence internal and external teams.
* Have a clear understanding of how health and safety is managed through the design process, with knowledge of major clients' CDM processes, e.g. Network Rail, Highways England.
* An active presence in external CDM forum groups and professional organisations.
* Experience of the audit process and the ability to identify and express areas of concern.
