What will the successful candidate be doing:
Role Purpose
Provide radiometric subject matter expertise (SME) to reinforce, maintain and improve radiological safety & maintenance during plant operations and maintenance to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation & guidance and to ensure people are working to SL standards and expectations on the SL site and off-site facilities. This role will be expected to be involved with Changeroom, Activity in Air, Gamma monitors and HP&S monitoring equipment. undefined.
Deliverables
• Support the Principal Qualified Person (PQP) and Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) in developing, embedding and assuring conventional safety policy, radiological safety practice, radiometric safety rules and supporting practices for Sellafield Ltd (SL) in line with relevant legislation, external standards and good practice (GPG’s).
• Support the PQP in developing and embedding a radiometric maintenance safety improvement plan for SL and update based on the output of assurance activities, investigations and condition reports.
• Act as the SME for all maintenance matters related to radiometric safety for their area of responsibility by holding operations, maintenance, projects and contractors to account and giving guidance to Qualified Persons (QPs) and the business.
• Assure compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017, National Good Practice Guides, relevant SLSP’s & guidance during any activities by personnel on radiometric equipment or systems by developing and delivering a programme of Task Observations and Radiometric Safety Audits.
• Provide training, coaching and mentoring to QPs Radiometrics.
• Appoint and reappoint and assess QPs and contractors (as required) to meet SL and Regulation 20 of the IRR requirements.
• Oversee the appointments and re-appointments of RPI SQEP Maintainers to confirm expected standard is being applied by the appointing QP.
• Assist in setting standards and performing instrument evaluations for selection of future instruments.
• Oversee and encourage use of Maintenance Standards and Human Performance tools and techniques in activities associated with work on radiometric equipment and systems.
• Attend stakeholder meetings to provide safety advice on the hazards identified and the controls required to mitigate hazards.
• Support management investigations with radiometric implications to determine root causes, extent of condition and identify learning to share across site. • Identify, develop and coach future SQP’s from within the QP communities to strengthen the capability of the radiometric community.
• Assess the requirements of all relevant legislation, standards and guidance and determine what arrangements are required for maintenance compliance.
• Support the PQP with regular involvement with regulators, stakeholders, auditors, unions, and benchmarking exercises. Proactively utilise networking and training opportunities to keep abreast of improvements and changes in standards, best practices and regulations and to embrace the usage of new technologies in areas of radiological engineering and safety.

Knowledge & Experience
• High level qualification in engineering or physics discipline or relevant experience/training.
• Operational understanding of the principles of radiation detection
•Nominated Person (Electrical)
Essential Skills
• High level qualification in engineering or physics discipline or relevant experience/training.
• Demonstrable experience in either the maintenance, or operational use of Radiation Protection instruments
• Ability to obtain the role of source user · Ability to obtain Nominated Person (Electrical)
• Demonstrable experience of communicating with all levels of the organisation.
• Demonstrable experience of prioritising own workload.
• Demonstrable experience of coaching or mentoring individuals to a high standard.
Desirable Skills
• Already hold a Senior QP or QP appointment • Experience of the setup and test of radiological protection instruments
• Computer literate specifically with the ability to produce presentations.
• Knowledge of the Disciplined Maintenance Standards
