Job Description:
We're excited to advertise our retail trainee manager programme to future leaders in London. This programme offers you the opportunity to develop into your first management role with Sainsbury's or Argos.
A manager's role involves leadership responsibilities, decision-making, and overseeing store operations. Customers and colleagues are central to this role, ensuring a safe, legal, and secure store environment. To support your development as a leader, we've designed a three-phase learning journey to equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to become a first-line manager.
If successful, you will be placed in a store, with consideration of your current residence and travel time. Flexibility on location will be discussed during your interview. The placement could be in a Convenience store, Argos, or a supermarket. We value raw potential, regardless of leadership experience, and are dedicated to supporting your development. We offer a competitive salary, benefits, and flexible hours (part-time and full-time options), providing a platform for career growth in our retail environment.
What you'll do
The programme comprises three phases:
1. Phase 1: A 6-week learning journey with instructor-led workshops, tasks, and e-learning, culminating in a management role assignment in a Sainsbury's supermarket, convenience store, or Argos store.
2. Phase 2: 12 weeks of role-specific training and practical experience, supported by job experts and a line manager mentor. Successful completion leads to a permanent retail manager position.
3. Phase 3: Perform the full retail manager role while re-joining your cohort for final skills development, focusing on managing performance, giving feedback, and team dynamics.
Who you are
We seek motivated individuals passionate about food, customer service, and our products. Leadership experience is not required; enthusiasm to learn, communication, teamwork, and customer service skills are valued. We are excited to support your leadership journey with us.
The Process
Apply by answering questions to assess fit. Successful candidates will be contacted for an interview, with offers made after. The recruitment campaign runs from 2nd November, with interviews from late November to early December. The cohort starts in early January.
What we’ll give you
Starting salary is £13.15/hour, increasing after 6 weeks and upon role confirmation. Final salaries depend on the role, e.g., £31,650 for Customer and Trading Manager or £33,650 for Job Family Manager. Benefits include:
* 10% discount at Sainsbury’s, Argos, Tu, Habitat after four weeks, increasing to 15% on Fridays and Saturdays.
* Free food and drinks in stores.
* Generous holiday, maternity, paternity leave.
* Pension scheme with 4-7% employer contributions.
* Sainsbury’s share scheme.
* Wellbeing support and counselling services.
* Colleague networks.
* Cycle to Work scheme.
* Special offers on memberships, holidays, and vouchers.
* Nightshift premium up to £4,500 annually (discussed during application).
