The Role
As a result of continued organic and acquisitive growth, we have identified a space for a VAT Compliance Manager to join our Business Services Team. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to 'shape' the role and make it their own, and they can be based at any of our offices, including Leeds, Glasgow, Newcastle, Carlisle, Kendal and Penrith.
The main elements of this role will include:
1. Reviewing 'medium' risk VAT returns
2. Segmenting VAT returns into 'low', 'medium' and 'high' risk
3. Reviewing our existing VAT checklists and processes, and updating these where required
4. Dealing with complex VAT queries from clients and colleagues
5. Overseeing VAT generally across Business Services
6. Keeping up to date with VAT legislation and communicating relevant changes to colleagues and clients where required
7. Providing VAT return training to colleagues
8. Reviewing our VAT software / system requirements and making improvements where required (may include further system implementations)
The Candidate
In order to fulfil the responsibilities of the position, we would like candidates to be / have:
1. A Full UK Driving Licence
2. Either AAT or ATT qualified or be "qualified by experience". Candidates with Chartered qualifications (such as CIOT, ICAS, ACA or ACCA) will also be considered
3. Experience of working in an Accounting capacity at an Accountancy practice
4. Strong knowledge of VAT and associated legislation
5. Comfortable working within a fast paced working environment
6. A dedicated team player and willing to assist colleagues within the team where possible
7. Able to prioritise workloads under strict deadlines and work well under pressure
8. Able to use initiative and have great organisation / problem solving skills
9. Keen to become part of a dynamic team
