Our Team
The Climate Change team supports the delivery of the North Yorkshire Council Climate Change Strategy, which has 4 key themes:
1. Mitigation - reducing carbon emissions.
2. Adaptation - preparing for the changing climate.
3. Supporting nature to thrive.
4. North Yorkshire Council to achieve net zero emissions by 2030.
We do this by setting policy direction, working collaboratively with internal colleagues and external partners, and supporting residents, communities, and businesses to take climate-responsible actions. The team develops and delivers projects, reports on progress, and engages with communities throughout North Yorkshire.
About the Role
Under the overall direction of your line manager and with support from colleagues on the team, you will undertake a wide range of project support activities relating to the council's Climate Change Strategy. You will engage in research, partnership development, and report findings to various service areas. You will also undertake, with supervision, projects of varying nature and complexity.
The successful applicant will work predominantly with the Climate Change team but may also support the Net Zero Delivery, Natural Capital, and Environmental Policy service teams to gain insights into statutory Local Nature Recovery programmes and innovative programmes to attract private investment into natural capital, ecosystem services, and renewable energy.
The role will also involve supporting responses to government consultations, emerging environmental policy, and high-profile areas with significant political interest.
You will be part of our council's graduate development programme, providing access to our graduate network, coaching, and leadership and development opportunities. The post will be based at County Hall Northallerton, with flexibility to work from home and in locations across North Yorkshire, sometimes during evenings and weekends.
