An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hardworking, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our busy Endoscopy Unit based at Wansbeck General Hospital as a ward clerk.

Main duties of the job
* Provides an administration and clerical service to the medical, nursing and associated teams, including the patient and their relatives for an individual ward or department
* Provides customer care for all patients, relatives and carers and other healthcare professionals.
* Demonstrates own role to other ward clerks and orientates staff to department and ward systems.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to provide a reception service, and act as an initial first contact for patients, visitors and other healthcare professionals on the telephone and face to face.
The successful candidate will provide support and cover Endoscopy reception. The post holder should have excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills and ideally be able to work flexibly with minimum supervision.
The post will be based at Wansbeck General Hospital however depending on service needs you may be asked to cover other sites within Northumbria Healthcare Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To provide a reception service, acting as first point of contact on the telephone or face to face, for patients, visitors and other healthcare professionals.
* To facilitate good communication with other wards and departments involved in patient care or ward/departmental functioning.
* To input data regarding all admissions, transfers and discharges onto Patient Administration System.
* To provide an efficient administration and clerical service to unit staff, visitors and patients.
* To provide cover trust wide when required to cover leave or sickness.

Qualifications / Professional Registration
* ECDL
* NVQ Customer Care
Experience and knowledge
* Knowledge of Patient Administration System for admissions, transfers and discharges gained through in-house training and induction.
* Understand Data Protection Act and the need for confidentiality
* Previous office/reception experience.
* Knowledge of pathology and x-ray systems to access reports gained through in-house training and induction.
* Knowledge of software packages such as word and access/excel.
