Purpose We are recruiting for a new children's home in Whetstone (N12) and also for an existing home in Hendon (NW4) Candidates must have at least 1 -2 years experience and working towards a qualification in this area. Scope of Work Role holders will undertake a range of routine procedures and use associated tools and equipment. Some personal initiative may be required. Key Responsibilities : 1. To work in a small team in order to support and implement the development of the children’s home. 2. To enhance and effect change to the good of all children with whom they work by acquiring the necessary skills through their own training and development. 3. To be an effective member of Egerton Children’s Home team. Key Tasks 1. To ensure that the young people’s needs are recognised and met. This includes ensuring that they are free from discrimination within the home and to challenge discrimination from outside the home. 2. To protect the young people from harm in and outside the home. 3. To assist the management in the home in compliance with Ofsted, legislation, and the ethos and policies of the company. 4. To exercise responsible control over the children to ensure their safety and well being and assist them in developing acceptable standards of personal hygiene and behaviour. This also applies to encouraging children to abide by house rules and principles. 5. To participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of the individual young people’s care plans. 6. In accordance with plans for the day, to organise and supervise recreational and leisure activities both in and out of the home to provide the children with an interesting and stimulating life. This includes being prepared to spend time away from home on holidays and at camps etc. 7. To ensure positive participation in the children’s home and attend training 8. To be familiar with and follow the Local Authority Child Protection Procedures and Egerton Gardens Children’s Homes, ‘Safer Caring and Child Protection Procedures‘. All information coming to the knowledge of staff must in the first instance be reported immediately to the Registered Manager or Senior Residential Worker. 9. To develop and maintain good working relationships with parents, social workers, schools and other professionals concerned with the welfare of the young people. 10. To use the home as a model to support and develop the social skills of the young people. 11. To ensure that the home provides an environment that is safe and sensitive to the needs of young people being looked after. 12. To ensure that the home meets the needs of the individual young people. 13. To maintain a good understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures 14. To care for children when they are ill and, where necessary, administer medicines, drugs and treatment under the guidance of the child’s medical practitioner. 15. To perform household duties as required. This includes cooking and general cleaning, sorting laundry, checking children’s bedrooms and encouraging them to keep their rooms tidy. 16. Adhere to the therapeutic philosophy of the home / organisation. Skills, knowledge and experience Candidates must have at least 1 -2 years’ experience working within a residential home and are working towards a NVQ 3 and above in Young people/children OR be happy to work towards one Dealt with young people who have Mental health, ADHD, challenging behaviour etc Understand the regulations within children’s homes MUST be computer literate and have the ability to liaise with social workers, schools parents etc In addition to the skills, knowledge and experience described above, you may be required to undertake a lower graded role as appropriate.
