Position Overview : Our client is looking for an experienced and motivated Quality Engineer to join a growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that the manufacturing processes, including metals fabrication, welding, and forging, meet the highest quality standards. Key Responsibilities : Quality Assurance & Control : Ensure all fabricated, forged, and welded components meet internal and external quality standards. Perform inspections, testing, and audits at various stages of production, from raw material inspection to final product delivery. Develop and implement quality control plans tailored to our welding, fabrication, and forging processes. Conduct visual, dimensional, and non-destructive testing (NDT) to ensure product integrity. Process & Product Improvement : Collaborate with production teams to identify and implement continuous improvements in fabrication, welding, and forging processes. Use Lean, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies to drive efficiency and reduce waste. Lead initiatives to resolve quality issues, minimize non-conformances, and improve product yield. Evaluate current quality practices and introduce innovative solutions to improve productivity and product quality. Compliance & Documentation : Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, including ISO 9001, ASME, BS EN ISO 9606, and other welding and forging certifications. Maintain and update quality records, test reports, certificates of conformity, and inspection logs. Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits, ensuring all quality documentation is accurate and up to date. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations specific to fabrication and welding processes. Supplier & Vendor Management : Monitor and evaluate the quality performance of external suppliers and subcontractors. Collaborate with suppliers to address quality issues and ensure their processes meet required specifications. Assist in supplier audits and the qualification of new suppliers, ensuring they align with the company’s quality standards. Training & Development : Provide guidance, training, and support to production teams on quality standards, inspection techniques, and best practices in fabrication, welding, and forging. Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to ensure consistency in quality practices. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance : Ensure that quality processes align with health, safety, and environmental requirements, particularly in high-risk environments like welding and forging. Work with the Health and Safety team to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and company safety standards. Skills & Qualifications : Essential : Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in quality engineering. Proven experience (minimum of 3 years) in a quality engineering role within a metals, fabrication, welding, or forging environment. Strong knowledge of welding standards and certifications such as ISO 3834, BS EN ISO 9606, ASME, or similar. Experience in conducting visual inspections, dimensional measurements, and non-destructive testing (NDT). Familiarity with ISO 9001 and other quality management systems. Proficiency in using measurement tools and inspection techniques (e.g., micrometers, CMM, gauges, weld inspection tools). Strong problem-solving skills and experience in using root cause analysis techniques (e.g., 8D, FMEA, 5 Whys). Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and suppliers. Desirable : Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies. Understanding of CAD and CAM systems as they relate to fabrication and welding. Knowledge of supplier quality management and experience conducting supplier audits. Previous experience working in a growing or fast-paced environment. Working Conditions : Based at our Sheffield facility, with occasional travel to supplier or customer sites. The role involves working in a manufacturing environment, with exposure to welding, fabrication, and forging processes. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is required at all times on the shop floor. Occasional overtime or shift work may be required depending on business needs.
