If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as our next Fire Safety Advisor here at Hinkley Point C The Opportunity As our next Fire Safety Advisor, you’ll play a key part in supporting fire safety within the Commissioning Programme by fostering a positive fire safety culture and ensuring seamless coordination among the various contractors working on the project and its Associated Development Sites. You’ll collaborate closely with the Commissioning Fire Safety Coordinator and HPC Site Fire Safety Engineers, assisting with daily fire safety management and monitoring. Your efforts will help integrate fire safety arrangements into the broader HPC Commissioning Programme, aligning them with established site-wide standards. What you will be doing In this role, you’ll actively contribute to implementing fire safety strategies, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and fostering a culture of safety and preparedness across all commissioning areas. Your work will directly support the smooth operation and safety of one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the UK. Additional responsibilities include: • Assist the Commissioning Fire Safety Coordinator with managing fire safety arrangements, including writing and owning Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs). • Facilitate and administer the Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness Management Systems, as well as Fire Safety Audits and Assurance processes. • Contribute to developing and implementing the Commissioning fire safety strategy for commissioning areas. • Conduct regular site fire safety inspections and checks in collaboration with the Commissioning Fire Safety Coordinator. • Perform fire safety assurance audits, inspections, and monitoring activities to ensure compliance with HPC site standards and UK legislation. • Communicate lessons learned, toolbox talks, and fire safety moments across the Commissioning Operations team. • Actively support the HPC Way by championing its pillars and ensuring fire health and safety standards are consistently met. • Work effectively within a team of health, safety, and environmental professionals to promote a pragmatic approach to fire safety. Who you are To be successful in this role, we’re looking for you to be actively working towards membership with the Institute of Fire Safety Engineers (IFE) or an equivalent professional organisation. A recognised fire safety qualification from an accredited body, such as the UK Fire Service College, FPA, IFE, or NEBOSH, along with at least one year of relevant experience, is essential. You must demonstrate a solid understanding of fire safety principles and practices and be proficient in using Microsoft applications, with a willingness to learn new software as required. Additional requirements include: • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build strong networks and working relationships within EDF and across the construction industry. • A proactive attitude towards learning and improving fire safety practices within commissioning teams. • Proven fire safety experience, including drafting Fire Risk Assessments within large-scale project environments. • A forward-thinking approach, capable of identifying and addressing potential future fire risks and their implications. • Expertise in engaging others on technical issues and fostering understanding across diverse teams. • Adept at distilling complex knowledge into actionable insights and empowering others to build their skills. • Practical and pragmatic in addressing technical challenges with effective solutions. • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing fire safety risk assessments.
