The role is for a housekeeper / parent helper with the main responsibility for maintaining the house with some childcare duties. One of the principals is stay-at-home, and sole care of children is limited. The children are twin boys aged 11. One boy is very sporty and has lots of fixtures and activities, while the other boy is more home-based and has mild autism. He is mainly managed by the principal, but once he gets to know you, he is confident and cooperative and enjoys art and cooking. In addition, they have two friendly dogs. The role will entail sometimes walking and washing the dogs and also feeding and managing vet appointments, etc.
The house is in a popular large village close to Oxford and Thame. It is a 6-bedroom home with a large garden. Within the grounds, they have a self-contained staff house that is comfortable and modern with two bedrooms and a large lounge area. The role is ideally live-out for someone who lives locally, but they can accommodate a live-in arrangement. The staff house could also be used when the employee needs to stay over, work late, or has an early start if needed.
The house is managed by a full-time property manager / all-rounder who lives locally.
Main Duties:
1. Helping with the school run 2 or 3 times per week.
2. Collection from school as required 2-3 times per week. Times vary between 15:30 and 18:00 (one day).
3. Household management including laundry, cleaning, and caring for antique furniture, fabrics, wood, and marble surfaces. Maintaining stock of household items and cleaning supplies, consumables.
4. Clothing management such as managing school uniforms, ordering new items (with principal), labeling and packing school bags, etc.
5. Managing the kitchen in terms of stock levels, shopping orders, meal planning, batch cooking, and preparing meals for the children. Occasionally preparing meals for everyone if they are eating together. The family treats staff as part of the family and can eat with the family and have their lunch at home as they wish.
6. Run errands including shopping for sundry items, going to the market, receiving deliveries, posting items, and meeting tradespeople on occasions (although there is a property manager who usually deals with this).
7. Occasionally providing lunch for guests/visitors.
8. Ideally, the candidate will be a confident cook and will occasionally help the principal cater for lunch parties/events.
9. May be required to house/dog sit when the family travels if the house manager is unavailable.
The Ideal Candidate:
1. Is discrete, professional, flexible, and reliable.
2. Is a confident driver.
3. Likes dogs and being outside.
4. Is a competent cook.
5. Has relevant experience in this type of role.
