Job summary Do you have the motivation, experience and skills to carry out a range of diagnostic tests in dermatology patients and contribute to the diagnoses and management of patients with sensitivity to sunlight or cancerous skin lesions?You will join the specialist Clinical Technologist team in the Photobiology Unit. You will work collaboratively with other disciplines to provide high quality care to our patients. The services performed by the post-holder are jointly provided by the Photobiology Unit and the Medical Physics Department.Our photosensitive patients have a range of genetic, immunological and drug related skin conditions provoked by sunlight. The role includes performing complex diagnostic investigations for photosensitivity, with examination of the impact of optical radiation on patients' skin and educating them in photo-protective measures. This service involves both adult and paediatric patients. You will also contribute to the delivery of the photodynamic therapy by treating patients with skin cancers and pre-cancers. Previous experience with handling optical radiation is desirable but not essential; training will be given in post.The Photobiology Unit has a commitment to continuous improvement in the quality of patient care and you will participate in audit, research and innovation.There will be the option to complete the Register for Clinical Technologist portfolio if not already registered with a relevant body. Main duties of the job Undertake, plan and interpret non ionising radiation investigations to a high level of competence Perform precise and accurate dosimetry Interpret and record responses on proforma Communicate and describe responses to photodermatology clinicians Perform photodynamic therapy under the direction of a photodermatologist Attend clinic and assist the photodermatologist Provide detailed liaison, information and advice contributing to patient care and well-being.
