This is a 12 month Secondment Vacancy to cover maternity leave
We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Ward Manager for Hafod Y Wennol.
The post holder will be a Registered Learning Disability or Mental Health Nurse, with experience of working with people with learning disabilities, mental health issues, behaviours which challenge and a forensic history.
The successful candidate will be required to work a Monday-Friday rota, which may also include occasional shifts on a weekend, night and bank holidays.
Hafod Y Wennol is a 6 bed locked assessment and rehabilitation unit. It is a dynamic and challenging work environment, supporting adults with Learning Disabilities who present with behaviours which can challenge.
The unit provides multi-disciplinary assessment, intervention and rehabilitation of individuals assessed as ready to step down from low secure and locked rehab environments. Individuals will be supported to move on to more independent living within their local area.
We aim to provide a high quality, person centred approach based on the Positive Behaviour Support Model of care.
Main duties of the job
As a Ward Manager, you will have overall responsibility of the unit and staffing resources to provide excellent care to the patients.
You will implement the operational policies and processes associated with the unit and ensure clinical pathways are maintained.
You will supervise staff and ensure compliance with mandatory training.
Job responsibilities
You will exercise 24-hour accountability for the management of the ward, to include leading and developing the core nursing establishment in the delivery of compassionate, high quality, effective, patient-centred nursing care; and providing fair, honest and measured people management.
You will work and communicate effectively as a member of the senior clinical and nursing leadership team for the Division/service, collaborating with other Ward Managers.
You will develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships with the clinical specialists from across nursing and the wider multi-disciplinary team, working in partnership to meet the patient needs and achieve nationally-agreed standards.
You will support staff in upholding the standards in the NMC Code (2018) as part of providing the quality and safety of care expected by service users and regulators.
You will take responsibility for effective rostering of staff to ensure that ward has effective skill mix and staffing levels to meet demand; and that staff health and well-being is a key consideration underpinning the rosters produced.
