Madisons Recruitment are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor and Senior Quantity Surveyor to manage the financial and contractual aspects of our construction projects. This role involves accurate cost estimation, cost control, and ensuring adherence to project budgets while upholding the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities
Prepare monthly WIP analysis, CVRs, and cash flow reports as required by the Commercial Manager and Financial Controller.
Engage with subcontractors to negotiate and secure profitable, contractually sound agreements.
Review and prepare contracts for director approval and signature.
Collaborate with Contracts Managers to monitor and assess subcontractor performance and competency.
Maintain tender margins when procuring materials or subcontractors.
Administer all commercial aspects of projects in line with contract requirements to maximize financial gains and cost recovery.
Prepare and agree on applications for payment and final accounts with clients.
Assess, manage, and process subcontractor payments.
Generate dashboard reports reflecting key commercial data for each project.
Identify and advise senior managers on project risks.
Support project teams with data-driven insights and decision-making.
Attend project meetings and represent the contracts, commercial, or project manager in their absence.
Follow internal commercial procedures and attend site meetings.
Ensure accurate recording of project liabilities and accruals.
Mitigate potential risks through Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events.
Issue formal variation quotations and track all project variations.
Oversee supplier accounts and act as the first point of contact for project-related queries.
Stay updated on contract legislation and industry best practices.
Conduct cost management exercises and time-motion studies.
Address site issues, claims, and disputes.
Support estimators as needed.
Continuously seek and implement improvements to commercial processes.
Mentor and support trainees, students, and apprentices in their development.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Professional accreditation (e.g., MRICS) is beneficial but not essential.
Proven experience in quantity surveying or cost management within the construction industry.
Strong understanding of construction processes, contracts, and budgeting.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in quantity surveying software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam) and MS Office.
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with teams and clients.
Attention to detail and a proactive approach to managing costs and schedules.
