About the Role:
Are you an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with a passion for optimizing plant and equipment in a high-hazard environment? Join our client BAE Systems where you'll play a pivotal role in upgrading and renewing key machinery. This is a great opportunity to lead cutting-edge projects while ensuring compliance with industry standards and legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee equipment acquisition, working closely with manufacturers and suppliers to procure, trial, and install bespoke machinery across the site.
* Manage the lifecycle of plant and equipment, ensuring operational capability, reliability, and adherence to safety regulations.
* Prepare and issue technical requirements, scopes of work, and evaluate tenders for outsourced projects.
* Lead the creation of business cases, risk assessments, method statements, and contractor competency assessments.
* Engage with in-house teams and third-party contractors for the maintenance, improvement, and replacement of site machinery.
* Ensure all activities comply with national and international standards, such as HAZOP, COMAH, DSEAR, and PUWER.
Core Duties:
* Ensure the long-term operational reliability of all plant and equipment.
* Conduct risk assessments of manufacturing processes and equipment.
* Lead process development projects, ensuring compliance with Lean and Six Sigma principles.
* Oversee contractor management and maintain competency skill matrices for personnel.
* Apply project and risk management tools and techniques to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Health & Safety:
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you are responsible for maintaining the highest standards of safety, health, and environmental (SHE) practices. This includes adhering to company policies and reporting work-related hazards or incidents.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
* Proven experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in high-hazard environments.
* Familiarity with relevant safety regulations and standards (HAZOP, COMAH, PUWER, DSEAR).
* Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to liaise with multidisciplinary teams.
* Experience in contractor management and equipment lifecycle management.
* Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, and other process optimization tools.
Qualifications:
* Minimum HNC/HND in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience).
* IOSH Managing Safety or NEBOSH Certificate is desirable.
* Membership of a Professional Engineering Institution is preferred but not required.
