We are recruiting a Preschool teaching assistant on behalf of a client. The ideal candidate should posses a full clear Enhanced DBS and Level 3 childcare qualification.
The Pre-school Assistant will assist the leader and Deputy in all areas of work in the day to day running of the setting. This will include ensuring safe, stimulating play for each individual child; fulfilling legal and statutory requirements; contributing to and implementing pre-school policies; in addition to acting as a key worker for a group of children or a one to one support worker for children with Additional Learning Needs
Main tasks will involve:
- Assist in ensuring the provision of a safe, healthy and stimulating early years environment in which children are able to learn and play through planned activities
- Assist in following all guidelines and procedures for pre-school policies including child protection and safeguarding as recommended by the registering authority
- To be a Keyworker for a group of children or to provide one to one support for a child. Will work in partnership with parents ensuring that they are kept fully involved and informed about their child’s activities, achievements and progress.
- Manage the behaviour of all children in a way that respects their rights and promotes their welfare and development
- Encourage child participation and raise awareness of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
- Treat all children, parents, staff/colleagues with respect and provide an example of good conduct that you would expect others to follow.
- To inform Line Manager of any problems, disagreements, and concerns.
- To take an active part in team meetings and take part in monitoring risk assessments.
- Assist in ensuring the setting is fulfilling legal and statutory requirements, e.g. The Children Act 1989, CIW, Data Protection 1998, health and safety, equal opportunities, ICO and child protection etc., by following pre-school policies and procedures.
- Will be required to meet the needs of the children which may involve physical duties such as lifting, working at a low level and promoting physical activities
- Communicating with rest of the team and reporting to Preschool Leader and communicating with parents and other professionals on a daily basis.
It’s essential that the person possess a level 3 Early Years & Childcare qualification that is recognised on the Social Care Wales List of required qualifications to work within the Early Years and Childcare Sector in Wales, these qualifications must meet the Flying Start framework
It’s important that the person has:
- a good understanding of play and child development and the ability to meet children’s needs.
- An understanding of person centered practices and how they are used to support children in the early years
- Understanding of how the indoor and outdoor environment are important to supporting children’s experiences
- Good communication skills both written and verbal.
- An understanding and commitment to equal opportunities and the ability to meet children’s individual needs.
