Job Introduction
This position is a 12 month fixed term contract
As the Youth Practitioner at Young Hounslow Sexual Health, you will deliver the Relationships and Sex Education Programme through outreach in the Borough of Hounslow to young people under the age of 24. You will provide health education, promotion, support, and information on sexual health and wellbeing, while also signposting young people to specialist sexual health services. A key aspect of the role is to engage young people creatively by facilitating workshops for large school groups, including assemblies, drop-ins, community events, and one-to-one key working sessions. A primary goal of the role includes building awareness around the National Chlamydia Screening Programme, increasing young people’s uptake in testing and awareness of STI transmission, as well as signposting schools and community organisations to register as NCSP and C-Card Scheme outlets.
Role Responsibility
We are looking for committed individuals who are passionate about the sexual health needs of young people (under the age of 24) and dedicated to sexual health promotion. You will support in the development and delivery of a relationships and sex education programme promoting topics such as healthy relationships, consent, boundaries, sex and the law, STIs, contraception, reproductive health, online safety, LGBTQ+ awareness and the importance of self-esteem. You will be a champion of sexual health supporting young people to build overall knowledge, confidence and skills in developing healthy relationships. This role involves a holistic and person-centred approach to safeguarding young people in identifying behaviours which are positive and supportive, in contrast to those that are exploitative and controlling. A key part of this role includes delivering quality work which is reported correctly to ensure outcomes and KPIs agreed with our commissioners.
The Ideal Candidate
You’ll need to be computer literate, have the skills to multi-task, able to manage your own time and be able to bring a naturally positive disposition to our team. Possession of RSE accreditation or relevant NVQ in social care or an equivalent is ideal, as is the motivation to acquire a qualification. This role is community based, mostly working on outreach in the community, with a minimum of 4 days in Hounslow Borough and 1 day working from home/office. The role requires the worker to be flexible with some evening and weekend work.
