We have a great opportunity for a Drawing Office Manager to work with one of the largest civil engineering and infrastructure specialists across the water, transport, built environment and energy sectors located in Walsall. The salary for this role is £45k to £49k. Job Description: Oversee the office team and be responsible for the quality of the drawings being produced and issued. Support the office team by producing GA drawings and fabrication drawings as required. Attend site and undertake surveys and produce provisional drawings and BOMS to enable the Office Team members to provide accurate estimates for their clients. Key Responsibilities: Drawing / Surveying / Issuing of works packs:
* Be the authority on design drawings and specifications
* Lead the office team in all elements of design drawing to ensure a consistent level of GA & fabrication drawings are produced and issued to the client and operational team
* Produce accurate detailed fabrication drawings for the operational team, including all necessary BSEN 1090 welding detail / symbols and specifications
* Undertake site surveys above and below ground level
* When undertaking site surveys identify potential issues / restrictions on site and provide feedback to the office team / Head of Fabrications to make provisions within the estimate
* Produce drawings utilizing modular principles where practical
* Liaise with the customer on all technical queries to ensure drawings are provided to the correct specification and ensure drawings are provided within agreed timescales
* Support the office team by producing design drawings as required
* Liaise with Barhale design team or external engineering teams and request all necessary design calculations to support your schemes
* Produce works packs to the operational team for all projects and be responsible for all completed quality packs and submissions
* Review and check drawings
Site Visits:
* Complete site surveys where required to discuss customer and client requirements
* Produce site measurements using laser measurement equipment, laser levels etc.
* Attend site meeting as necessary
Project Management:
* Attend design / client meetings to support with development of product designs and concepts
* Support the Head of Fabrications and Office Team Members in controlling projects from inception to completion and handover of quality paperwork
* Assess the project requirements and select the appropriate method of manufacture
* Advising clients on design and availability of materials, offering alternatives where information or specification is incorrect or obsolete.
* Ensure they always adhere to best practices and Thames Water specifications etc.
Procurement:
* Liaise with suppliers to obtain the best value for money on materials required for projects
* Quotations to be provided and correspondence saved within each project folder
* Process purchase orders in the costing system and save correspondence within each project folder
* Provide updates to the Fabrications Team on lead times to assist with production planning
* Delivery dates are to be agreed with suppliers and chased if they are not delivered within agreed timescales
* Communicate all delays to the Operations Team
Customer Service:
* Ensure the level of service provided to their customers is of the highest standard and all communication is maintained
* Queries and issues are to be dealt with as a matter of urgency to minimise the potential impact on the business
* Complaints process to be followed for all customer complaints
* Monitor projects due for delivery each day and follow up on all unconfirmed orders to prevent customer orders becoming overdue
System and Process:
* Ensure the fabrications job register is updated with quotation information and customer orders
* All documents to be saved in the projects folder structure
* Issue Declaration of Performance and UCKA Certificate for all fabrication work that is manufactured to 1090 standards
* Investigate credit requests and feedback to Management and Accounts Team where required
* Ensure processes are followed, providing Management with feedback to assist with continuous improvement
* Contribute to the near miss procedure
* Assist with the annual stock check
Other Duties: • Monitoring of department mailbox for incoming enquiries and orders and adding jobs to the register Requirements The successful candidate is likely to meet all of the following criteria: Essential:
* Working within the medium/heavy engineering industries
* Ability to produce 2D AUTOCAD and drawings, working to the required BSEN standards
* Great communicator and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
* Great written communicator
* Attention to detail
Desirable:
* Knowledge within the Network Rail and wastewater sectors
* Confine space trained
* Experience of working with 3D solid works (or a desire to learn this element)
