Position Title: Better Bus Operational Excellence Coach
Reports to: Head of Operational Excellence
Location: Home based with frequent UK Travel
Position Summary
To support the delivery of consistently high levels of service for our customers and exceptional standards of depot operation, using personal expertise to guide and coach local depots to continually improve performance.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
1. To use effective communication, active listening, recognition, and empathy when engaging with depot colleagues.
2. To develop trusting working relationships with colleagues, following the ‘Our Way' principles.
3. To train and coach colleagues across a range of operational areas, improving standards of delivery.
4. Health, Safety & Environmental:
1. To comply with safe working practices.
2. To demonstrate a passionate positive attitude to safety through personal actions and share successful safety principles as appropriate.
3. To support the Company's environmental campaigns and be aware of First Bus annual environmental targets.
5. Operations:
1. To hold the role of expert in bus operations, operational systems, policies, and processes used at First Bus, providing a point of reference for team members across the business on current best-practice and standard operating procedures.
2. To conduct in-depth on-site reviews of depot performance, identifying areas of excellence and opportunities for development tailored to the depot.
3. To monitor ongoing performance, analysing data trends to identify opportunities to improve performance by applying the Operational Excellence Framework.
4. To provide in-the-moment coaching to various management roles, positively supporting them develop strategic action plans and holding them to account when performance is not achieved.
5. To recognise best-practice at depot level and disseminate across the wider First Bus network, building connections and collaboration between managers to share knowledge, expertise and best practice.
6. Drive improvement to lift performance in line with operational excellence framework.
7. To conduct other duties commensurate with the role as may be deemed appropriate by the Head of Operational Excellence.
Skills / Experience
1. Previous experience (within the bus/transport industry desirable).
2. Creativity: the ability to problem-solve in a creative, yet structured manner.
3. Have expert knowledge of the detailed day-to-day requirements of the operation.
4. Ability to work proactively to identify depot requirements and coach through to improvement.
5. Organised, thorough and with a high level of attention to detail.
6. Strong time management skills.
7. Ability to utilise own initiative in all facets of activities.
8. Pragmatic and flexible in approach.
9. Articulate with a strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
10. Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong interpersonal skills.
11. Proficient with the use of MS Office and Company IT systems and applications.
12. Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, best practice and Company minimum standards.
13. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
14. A creative mind with an ability to suggest improvements.
