When considering a career move it’s vital to work for a business that is aligned to your values and goals, a place where you can belong. See what WSP stands for in 2024 and beyond…
As one of the UK’s largest ecology teams with a growing portfolio of projects, WSP is looking to appoint a talented and ambitious Biodiversity Net Gain and/or Natural Capital Regional Lead covering Scotland and Ireland to help support our growing portfolio of project work and shape the future of the Biodiversity Net Gain and/or Natural Capital. You’ll work with our dedicated Ecology and Natural Capital team within the Environmental discipline.
We are looking for someone who is well established as a biodiversity net gain and/or natural capital expert in Scotland/Ireland and who has experience providing strategic advice to private and public sector clients. The ideal candidate would have a very thorough understanding of biodiversity policy in Scotland/Ireland and development consenting processes, together with an ability to keep abreast of emerging markets in natural capital and a strong track record in applying biodiversity metrics to different development types.
The successful candidate would be based in our Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast or Naas offices. The role will focus primarily on existing and new projects in Scotland and Ireland but with potential to engage in our wider UK or international work. WSP provides a generous training and career development allowance, and you will encourage and support the use of this to develop individual and Team development goals. You will be supported by technical experts from across WSP and have an opportunity to carve your own niche and develop ideas for innovative work that delivers better outcomes for the environment, economy, and society.
A typical week would include:
* Leading and mentoring your Regional Team to produce timely, accurate and high-quality products and services.
* Influencing and shaping current work streams and expanding the current customer base.
* Generating opportunities, preparation of tenders and overseeing the delivery and project management of a range of deliverables (technical, commercial and financial) in support of our clients’ projects.
* Being a Regional focal point for biodiversity net gain and natural capital work in Scotland and Ireland by communicating internally with other disciplines about potential areas for cross-disciplinary work and collaboration and raising the profile of natural capital work outside of the Environmental service line.
* Raising the profile of WSP’s work externally with clients, through delivering industry webinars and presentations.
* Playing a key role within the Ecology and Nature Advisory teams, helping to nurture an enthusiastic, supportive and productive working environment.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
* Experience of staff management and a passion for developing and mentoring individuals as they progress their careers.
* A proven record of delivering biodiversity net gain and/or natural capital work with clients in Scotland and/or Ireland.
* Additional experience and skills in any of the following: habitat management (e.g. peatland restoration); marine ecology; economics; ornithology; soils.
* Experience winning work, writing and contributing to bids and managing projects.
* The ability to apply technical excellence in a commercially astute manner.
