Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279)
This is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit team at our busy, welcoming children's hospital.
The Alex is the only dedicated children's hospital on the South East coast, providing the chance to work closely with a wide team of peers, delivering tertiary care to children and young people up to the age of 17 years old, living in Brighton and Hove, East and West Sussex and East Surrey areas.
As part of the paediatric gastro team, you would have the opportunity to take part in activities including dedicated monthly coeliac and IBD clinics, fortnightly joint nutrition clinic, Eosinophilic Esophagitis clinic, transition clinic, and outreach clinic. Our dedicated Gastroenterology Investigation Unit provides a full range of GI investigations including hydrogen and methane breath tests, 24-hour PH study, PH impedance, and indirect calorimetry for energy expenditure measurement. We also provide endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) services, interventional endoscopy (polypectomy), and video capsule endoscopy. We have an established home parenteral nutrition service caring for intestinal failure patients.
The post holder would also act as 'Consultant of the Week' for our paediatric medical inpatients, on a 1 week in 12 basis.
This is a varied, exciting, and interesting post, with room to shape the role concerning your particular areas of interest.
We welcome questions and are happy to arrange visits should you wish to discuss this opportunity further.

The post holder will:
1. Add value to the department of paediatric gastroenterology through strong professional leadership and contribute to the development of closer working patterns, guidelines, education, and standards.

3. Provide telephone advice for patients and families.
4. Contribute to the undergraduate teaching program at BSMS and to postgraduate education and supervision within the department.

The new consultant has the opportunity to participate in the 'consultant of the week' rota, providing care for all medical in-patients with a frequency of 1 in 12 weeks, with a 1 in 12 on-call commitment for general paediatrician on-call. This is open to discussion based on the candidate's general paediatric experience. They will also provide gastroenterology on-call service.
