We are on the lookout for an experienced General Manager to take the lead at The Pipe Major, a beautiful community pub in Dagenham. We are looking for a strong General Manager to lead this business through a large capex investment in early 2025!
Salary up to £45,000 plus bonus and a generous benefits package.
About the pub
The Pipe Major is ideally located, situated close to Dagenham town centre and within a 2-minute walk of the tube station. It’s also just a 5-minute walk from Dagenham Football stadium where the West Ham ladies play, alongside Dagenham FC. There is a Travel Lodge next door, and an area of rejuvenation with new businesses being built next to the pub.
Due to have a £250,000 capex investment in early 2025, transforming this community business into our newly launched Two-Door format. Offering the perfect platform for you to enhance your career and play a vital role in the initial roll-out of our Two-Door format in line with our new strategy. Our Two-Door format perfectly combines the elements of a family-orientated business with that of a traditional pub, so you’ll need to be an agile operator, with the ability to flex your skills to the demands of a multi-faceted business, harnessing the ability to maximise the amazing atmosphere in your pub when you’re showcasing live sporting events, as well as being able to create that family-friendly atmosphere to delight guests (especially our little guests!) in our family dining area.
Being at the heart of the community, our Two-Door pubs will boast darts boards, pool tables and of course sports viewing screens, so you’ll be passionate about engaging with the local community to embed those reasons to visit and thrive on building a reputation with local sports teams to really make your pub the hub of the community!
Currently, the Pipe Major is delivering average weekly sales of £30,000.
This role comes with a large 2-bedroom accommodation above site for the ingoing General Manager.

What hours would I need to work?
As the General Manager of your pub, you’ll be required to work at peak trading times which involves evenings & weekends, as well as peak trading days such as bank holidays & the festive period.

What is my bonus based on?
Your quarterly bonus is based on sales uplift vs budget, Reputation score & Employee Engagement. Your annual bonus scheme is based on sales & profit performance vs budget.
