Operating across multiple branches in the UK, Crouch Waterfall is a forward thinking Civil, Structural, Geotechnical and M&E Engineering Consultancy. You will be working on structural designs and assessments in a wide variety of forms, materials, and sectors. Established since 1981, the business has enjoyed steady growth driven by a committed and highly skilled workforce of 120 employees.
Our Cardiff team has experienced remarkable growth over the past three years, expanding from just four engineers and technicians to a team of 20 highly qualified members. The Cardiff office now encompasses all four departments offered by the company, delivering a comprehensive range of services.
During this period, the team has successfully designed and delivered a variety of exciting projects, including the Roof Walk experience at the Principality Stadium, the Tidal Defence Gate design for the town of Truro, and a 50m Steel Tower providing access to the Sudbrook shaft tunnel on the River Severn. Additionally, our expertise extends to footbridge design, such as Devils Footbridge and Seven Sisters Footbridge, as well as the refurbishment of listed structures such as Llanbradach Station Footbridge.
Our team has also contributed to major scaffold designs for Hinkley Point C and undertaken diverse projects involving brickwork bridges and buildings, structural assessments and design of concrete structures and buildings, repair of timber canopies and use of innovative materials such as GRP.
The Role
You’ll join the close-knit team based within a welcoming and relaxed office, and work with other offices across different projects.
Reporting to the Company Director as a Technical and Project Lead, you will lead and inspire a team of Engineers and Technicians across wide variety of projects, from small value projects up to £20m in construction value. The position requires a candidate who is keen to diversify and encompass the scope of our project tasks which covers commercial structures, public sector structures, rail, domestic and temporary works design amongst others.
The role would suit someone with a background in structural design and the ability to understand the requirement for permanent and temporary works design to support our engineering teams and main contractors with solving their construction difficulties. The candidate should have experience in the use of all structural materials.
Your duties will include, although not be limited to:
* Leading and managing a team of Engineers and Technicians, including mentoring, coaching and training
* Taking ownership of own projects across buildings schemes
* Carrying out inspections, site surveys and assessments of structures and preparing reports
* Overseeing the design of civil & structural schemes and checking designs prepared by others, including detailed calculations by hand and through computer models.
* Advising junior staff on solutions and supporting other team members on developing solutions
* Preparing and managing project programmes, workload and resources along with the directors
* Liaising with clients to verify project scope and ensure deliverables
* Preparation of tenders and fee proposals
* Developing new and existing client relationships
* Meeting with clients to promote the skills we provide
* Development of new work opportunities
* Development of the team, including interviewing and resourcing
What will I receive in return?
As a Chartered Principal Engineer, you would receive a salary of £50,000-60,000 dependent on experience and qualifications, including:

You’ll be employed on a permanent contract, working 40 hours per week. There is flexibility with start and finish times available however, the core working hours are Monday to Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm.
What will I need to be considered for this vacancy?
To be considered for this role you will have the following experience, qualifications, skills, knowledge and attributes;
* Relevant Civil or Structural Engineering degree
* Working towards Chartership or Chartered (ICE or IStructE)
* Strong technical knowledge within assessment and design including inspections, calculations and analysis of existing structures and new-build design development
* Considerable project management experience across buildings, bridges and temporary works, with drive and a proven record to meeting targets
* Experience within the UK industry; preferably with Eurocode and Highway standards
* Experience leading and developing a team of Engineers
* Experience of structural engineering software such as Tedds, Robot Structures, Midas or similar FEM analysis software, and have experience working within a 3D design environment
* Client focused approach with effective interpersonal and communication skills
* Strong commercial awareness
* Full UK driving licence and own transport
* Full and independent right to work in the UK
