Thorn SDS is a niche Managed Service Provider based in Alton, Hampshire, who are committed to enabling technology organisations and professionals to thrive within the Space, Defence and Security sectors. We are currently looking for an experienced Network Engineer to work onsite, 5 days per week, at our secure site in Farnborough.
As a Thorn SDS Network Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that the technology systems have the correct network infrastructure developed for the specific environments. This will include (but not limited to) configuration and management of routers and switches, routing protocols, VLAN configuration, network segmentation, virtualisation, cloud networking, network automation, generation of detailed network designs, and configuration, including reports on network performance.
Due to the security restrictions of this role, applicants need to hold, or be able to obtain, the necessary security clearance level of DV. (SC with the ability to obtain DV will be considered.) See Gov.UK for further information: United Kingdom Security Vetting: Applicant - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
The role may require travel to various sites within the UK which will require overnight stays.
Responsibilities:
* Configure and manage routers and switches to ensure optimal performance.
* Implement and manage routing protocols to facilitate efficient data transmission.
* Design and implement VLAN configurations for network segmentation.
* Work on network virtualization to enhance scalability and flexibility.
* Implement and manage cloud networking solutions.
* Develop and implement automation scripts for network tasks to improve efficiency.
* Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging trends in network automation.
* Generate comprehensive network designs based on project requirements.
* Ensure adherence to industry standards and best practices in network design.
* Configure and manage network devices according to established design specifications.
* Produce detailed reports on network configurations and performance.
* Manage the deployment of network infrastructure in later stages of delivery.
* Assist end users in testing environments to ensure optimal functionality.
* Identify and troubleshoot any issues during the implementation phase.
* Implement tools and processes for monitoring and managing network performance.
* Proactively address network issues and implement improvements.
* Attend PI (Program Increment) planning conferences to contribute to the overall planning and strategy.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and timelines.
* Enable others to achieve results and contribute to the development of strategy.
* Supervise or guide team members.
Requirements:
* Proven experience as a Network Engineer.
* Strong skills in Networking Protocols, Routing and Switching, Network Security, Network Monitoring and Management, Network Virtualization, Cloud Networking, and Network Automation.
* Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to analyse complex network issues.
* Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are a plus.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
* Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and industry trends.
* Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
