Role Details
We are seeking a Library Assistant to assist in the provision of the library service to the students and staff of Regent’s University London. This is a hands-on role, and you will assist users with a wide range of library requests including staffing the information desk, using the library management system to issue/return materials and dealing with fines. You will also open and close the Library as required and will ensure the Library is maintained, kept tidy and looks professional.
You should have a background in customer service and experience of working within a library (or a good understanding of library services within an academic environment). You should also have good communication, interpersonal and customer relation skills along with a flexible approach to your work and the ability to work on your own initiative. The working pattern for this role is 20 hours per week, to be worked on a Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Interviews will be held on campus w/c the 28th April 2025.
Main Responsibilities
1. Staffing the Library information desk, including using the library management system to issue/return materials and deal with fines. Assist users with a wide range of library requests.
2. Delivering a consistently high level of service to Library users and following departmental procedures on student incidents, complaints and disputes.
3. Shelving returned Library materials, shelf tidying and maintenance of Dewey Decimal System order.
4. Physical processing of new Library materials, maintenance of ebooks, creating and editing interactive reading lists.
5. Liaising with daytime staff via handover reports and email.
6. Opening and closing the Library according to departmental procedures including locking the Library at closing time, ensuring security of the collection.
7. Liaising with other departments where necessary and reporting system or equipment failures to the IT helpdesk.
8. Ensuring the security of the collection by following the incident reporting procedures.
9. Maintaining a tidy and professional appearance of the Library.
10. Actively seek to implement the University’s health and safety policy, and give due regard to the health and safety of themselves and others when carrying out duties.
