Key Responsibilities - Science Teacher
As a Science Teacher, your main responsibility will be to provide high-quality, engaging, and differentiated lessons focused on the Science curriculum. Your key duties will include:
Delivering the Science Curriculum - Planning and delivering lessons in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), ensuring they are engaging, accessible, and appropriate for all learners
Differentiated Instruction - Adapting teaching materials and lesson plans to meet the needs of individual students, particularly those with SEND, SEMH, ASD, and ADHD
Behaviour Management and Emotional Support - Implementing positive reinforcement and restorative approaches, helping students manage their emotions and develop social skills
Supporting Social and Emotional Development - Encouraging resilience, self-regulation, and emotional growth within the classroom
Safeguarding and Welfare - Ensuring students' safety, well-being, and that their needs are met in line with safeguarding policies
Collaborating with SENCOs and Support Staff - Working with the SENCO and other teaching assistants to implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
Ideal Candidate Profile
Passionate about teaching Science and supporting students' learning and development, particularly those with SEND, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and behavioural challenges
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues
Understanding of child development, behaviour management, and trauma-informed practices (training provided)
Patient, empathetic, and proactive, with a positive attitude towards overcoming challenges in the classroom
Willingness to learn and adapt to different teaching methods and strategies to best support students' individual needs
Hold (or be willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS Certificate
A Typical Day as a Science Teacher
Your day will start with planning and reviewing Science lessons based on student needs. You will be responsible for delivering lessons in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, ensuring they are inclusive and engaging for all students, particularly those with additional needs. Throughout the day, you will use a variety of teaching strategies to support students in developing their scientific knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. You will regularly assess student progress, provide feedback, and collaborate with other teachers and support staff to create the best learning environment possible. Your day will conclude with reviewing the day's activities and preparing for the next steps in students' educational development.
