Role Purpose:
Lead & Drive Category Range, Price & Supplier Strategy, whilst delivering Sales & Profit.
Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for development of Supplier & Category/Department Strategy
2. Maximise supplier/category profit & sales.
3. Work with suppliers/licensees & brands to build deeper commercial relationships to deliver strategy.
4. Negotiate terms of contract to deliver greatest commercial return for the business.
5. Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and source new suppliers for future products.
6. Present strategy & ranging plans to key stakeholders
7. Manage Supplier/Department Planning to support Business Objectives
8. Maximise intake margin whilst ensuring pricing strategy remains competitive.
9. Responsible for intro Pricing Strategy with focus on key territories
10. Work with merchandising to create & deliver supplier/category plan
11. Work with merchandising to ensure buys are aligned to financial budgets.
12. Responsible for Range Selection & Product & Range development
13. Deliver ranging strategy
14. Review Performance & lead Market Research
15. Research market & conduct feedback sessions to ensure all opportunities are maximised
16. Work closely with our partners to build cohesive ranges
17. Review current ranges and products to remain competitive and relevant
18. Interrogate sales reports to identify consumer buying patterns to ensure we predict future trends & identify ranging opportunities.
19. React to changes in demand
20. Drive trading & marketing, optimizing sales and profitability
21. Deliver range presentations
22. Liaise with Business Management to deliver marketing plan
23. Manage & Mentor Assistant Buyer/s to ensure strategy is delivered across all suppliers/categories
You may also be required from time to time to work additional hours including but not limited to providing support around events and hot markets. This may involve weekend and late-night working and International travel may be required.
Knowledge and Experience:
1. A minimum of 5 years’ experience within a retail and branded buying environment
2. Experience of defining and delivering a category or supplier strategy
3. A track record of delivering sales, margin & performance targets
4. Great experience of working and negotiating with suppliers/brands
5. Previous Management and employee development experience
6. Ability to make own decisions, taking responsibility for actions and delivering high performance results with the confidence to take some risks
7. Strong communication skills, the ability to build relationships and influence both internally & externally at all levels
8. Knowledge of sports product/industry is preferable
