Kids Planet is an independent, family-owned group of nurseries providing the highest standard of nursery care across the UK.
Due to the ongoing growth of Kids Planet, we are delighted to be expanding our award-winning Outdoor Specialist team. The successful candidate will be passionate about nature-based play, with the ability to inspire others and nurture nursery teams through our very own nature-based approach, alongside other outdoor training and support.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST:
While this list is not exhaustive and may be subject to evolution over time, the principal requirements of the post are as follows:
1. To oversee the successful completion of our nature-based approach with a variety of settings to a high standard.
2. Delivery of immersive and engaging practical training sessions.
3. To evaluate and contribute to training materials and programmes to continually strive for high quality.
4. To promote learning in the outdoor environment, living by the Kids Planet values and outdoor ethos.
5. Provide ongoing support, coaching and mentorship.
6. Observe and model outstanding practice outdoors, continually measuring impact.
7. Ongoing communication with Nursery Managers, the Senior Management team and the Early Years Department to ensure effective collaboration across the company.
Responsibilities:
1. To coach and support settings to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to establish and deliver nature-based learning and practical sessions in their nursery and local community.
2. To have excellent knowledge of child development, the EYFS and the ability to work and communicate effectively with learners and key stakeholders.
3. Plan, evaluate and adapt practical hands-on training covering a wide variety of outdoor topics and abilities.
4. To support settings in building a portfolio of evidence, meeting specific criteria and learning outcomes. Assess and provide feedback.
5. To promote high standards of quality within settings regarding the outdoor environment and resources, the experiences offered to children, planning and adult interactions.
6. Maintain up to date knowledge on the delivery of Outdoor Education and relevant professional development in this area.
7. Ensure the highest standards of Health and Safety for all training sessions, outdoor Learning areas and equipment, including your own kit. Ensuring relevant Risk Benefit Assessments are in place, completed correctly and understood.
8. Promote sustainability, working alongside initiatives already in place.
9. Attend team meetings where required.
10. Support new acquisitions with all aspects of outdoor learning, including basic provision and set ups.
11. To source and establish agreements of outdoor training spaces, taking responsibility for the organisation and running of these facilities.
12. Oversee progress of settings and measure impact, reporting to Head of Outdoor Learning.
13. Understand and follow policies and procedures set out by Kids Planet.
14. Hold a 2 Day Outdoor First Aid certificate and ensure all those delivering practical sessions complete this training.
15. Support with OFSTED and nurseries of concern where required.
16. Carry out end point assessments at settings who have completed evidence.
17. To assume additional responsibilities as reasonably requested by the Head of Outdoor Learning.
The ideal candidate will possess:
1. Minimum Level 3 qualification in Early Years.
2. Forest School qualification (or equivalent outdoor qualification can be discussed).
3. 2 day Outdoor First Aid certificate (or be willing to undertake).
4. Strong knowledge of child development and outdoor pedagogy.
5. Knowledge of Health and Safety relating to Outdoor Learning provision.
6. Experience of working in an outdoor context.
7. Knowledge and experience of training and development.
8. Full, clean driving licence and use of a vehicle.

5. The ability to work as part of a dynamic team and build relationships.
6. Exceptional organisational, planning and time management skills, with the ability to organise own workload, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
7. Ability to take responsibility and to show initiative.
The role is field-based and will require significant amounts of travel and occasional overnight stays away from home. The successful candidate is required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business; this may include some evening or weekend work to support improvement, for example, to deliver evening training sessions.
