We offer the opportunity to teach highly motivated children, in small classes, where you can make a real difference at this national centre of excellence for deaf education. No knowledge of sign language is required, as we follow an auditory/oral philosophy. Curriculum: We currently follow at two-week timetable with 25 lessons of 1:05 per week. Computing is compulsory at KS3 where we follow the National Curriculum, with 1 lesson per week. All students do Functional Skills IT in Y10 unless they choose GCSE computing as one of their options, in which case they get 5 lessons per fortnight plus the 1 per fortnight that is used for everyone to follow Functional Skills. At KS5, we currently offer OCR Technical in ICT, with 5 lessons per week. Uptake at KS4 and 5 is typically good with classes of between 4 and 8 per cohort. Resources: Apart from the Head of ICT ICT lessons take place in three dedicated Computer Rooms. All ICT classes have one PC per pupil. All the computer rooms have interactive whiteboards. There is a full time Network Manager and an IT Technician who support the work of the whole organisation. The Role: To ensure high standards of teaching and learning of computing are delivered as set out in the curriculum in accordance to departmental and school policy. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Promote excellence in teaching and learning to ensure all pupils develop their potential and are equipped for life beyond school, by obtaining high examination results. Exemplify in own practice the skills of teaching and learning typified by the profession. Actively promote interest in the subject outside the immediate physical and timetabled confines of the department. Actively promote the department within the school community to encourage pupils’ interest in the subject area. Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the school’s values and vision. Maintain good order and discipline among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment. Contribute to the broader life of the school by supporting and leading curricular and extra-curricular events such as school productions, activity days and language clubs. Person Specification Education Attainment Qualified teacher status Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or the willingness to work towards Degree in Computing or related subject Successful secondary teaching experience Knowledge and Experience Knowledge of the National Curriculum Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies A good understanding of how children learn.
