This position is part of our expanding research portfolio on the safety of ADAS and Automated Driving Systems. It involves conducting in-depth Functional Safety analyses for Automated Driving Systems in collaboration with industry and academic partners. The role requires understanding and applying international standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 21448, ISO/SAE 21434, ISO TS 5083 to develop safety cases for ADAS and Automated Driving Systems across various Operational Design Domains. Additionally, the role involves using safety and failure analysis methods such as FMEA, FTA, HAZOP, STPA, and similar techniques.
The successful candidate will engage with academic and industrial partners through research projects like Horizon Europe-funded SUNRISE, SYNERGIES, EVENTS, i4Driving, and UKRI/Innovate UK/CCAV-funded initiatives such as UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship and DriveSafeAI.
About You
The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge and experience in functional safety processes, preferably within the ADAS and Automated Driving domains. Experience in developing safety concepts and conducting safety reviews, along with familiarity with standards like ISO 26262, ISO 21448, ISO/SAE 21434, ISO TS 5083, is essential.

The Safe Autonomy Research Group at WMG conducts research and engineering across the safety of automated land, air, and marine transport. Our work spans fundamental and applied research, policy development, standards, regulation, and commercial projects.
