Design / Technical Manager - Electrical Bias

Purpose of the role:
Lead, own and manage the technical risk and opportunities within the business, from inception through to project completion and client handover, focusing on design optimisation, opportunity identification and mitigation of technical risk. Ensure technical compliance with works information, scope, project specification and legislation, undertaking technical management of both internal and external designs.
Key Deliverables:
Health & Safety:
Demonstrate appropriate Health and Safety leadership to ensure that the safety first and foremost message is visible and alive throughout all activities relating to the project on which you are working.
Team Leadership & Engagement:
Lead the technical engineering management on internally and externally designed projects to successfully achieve company, team and individual objectives relating to; the implementation of best value design, management of opportunities and risk mitigation. Provide technical advice and assistance to other areas of the business and support business development from a technical solution perspective.
Business Planning & Budgeting:
Assist the Regional Design & Engineering Manager in the production of technical management fees for internally and externally designed projects. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of technical management costs, values and programme forecasts; seeking opportunities to suggest actions which mitigate risk and maximise profitability.
Training & Competence Development:
Support the Principal Technical Manager in the identification, delivery and attendance of CPDs, ensuring that the development of the design/technical team’s competence is maintained. Provide technical advice and assistance to other areas of the business and support business development, actively promoting their technical capability.
Performance:
Prepare monthly project reports for Senior Stakeholders highlighting progress, risks, opportunities, and resource issues. Advise on commercial progress against plan, any variances from plan and the corrective actions being taken. On external designs, take ownership of the completion of the responsibilities matrix of the Engagement of Consultant Pack, ensuring that scope gaps are mitigated.
Stakeholder Relations:
Build and maintain mutually beneficial customer, key supplier and internal relationships. Promote the design team and actively seek out new opportunities. Communicate proactively with project stakeholders to improve our collaboration with operational teams.
Design Responsibility:
Conduct regular independent design/technical reviews of both internal and external designs in accordance with the clients technical review process, ensuring that both internal and external designs are technically correct and represent best value and comply with all legal and contracted requirements.
Legislation:
Apply current legislation regarding building regulations, standards, CDM, quality control, commissioning, safety & environmental issues relating to all building services activities.
Experience, Qualifications and Training:
Experience, qualifications, professional membership or training courses that are essential for successful performance of role (e.g. for contractual or legal reasons):
Experience Essential:
* Extensive experience in MEP design / technical management
* Good understanding of design and build and traditional construction contracts
* Significant experience of commercial management on design projects
* Strong communication skills, ability to influence at all levels
Qualifications & Professional Memberships – Essential:
Eng, MCIBSE, MIET, B. Eng (Hons) or equivalent
