Locum Community Paediatric Consultant (x2 full time)
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated colleague to join our friendly team. This is a locum post in the first instance but could have potential to become a substantive appointment.
Working within a team of Community Paediatricians in an integrated directorate of child health, you will be responsible for the delivery of general community paediatric services. You will be expected to participate in the Consultant of the week rota for safeguarding from Monday to Friday during office hours, and those in the post are encouraged to develop an area of interest.
This is a full-time post, with no on-call commitment, but we would welcome applications from those wishing to work less than full time, or job share.
Main duties of the job
Job Purpose
To provide community paediatric care for children and families in south Northamptonshire.
Duties & Responsibilities
* To provide consultant-led community paediatric services within the area of south Northamptonshire, including regular out-patient clinics, assessments of children within the CDC, and liaison with schools and education authorities as necessary.
* The locality community paediatric workload will involve the assessment and management of children with neurodevelopmental difficulties. Experience in the management of ADHD, ASD, learning difficulties, and associated comorbidities is necessary. The expected base of work is at Northampton General Hospital; however, there are some clinics done in the locality.
* Contribution to multidisciplinary assessment and management in a collaborative way with all members of the team.
* Experience in safeguarding children is essential, and it is expected that the candidate will be confident in working closely with multiagency partners and be Level 3 trained.
* To provide paediatric advice and support for pupils attending a Special School.
* To participate in audit and CME as required by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
* To actively participate in clinical governance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
All new appointees will start as per Trust policy on 10 PA's under the new Consultant contract. The division of the timetable should reflect commitment to 8.5 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PAs for basic Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).

* Educational supervision of trainees - 0.250
* Medical Appraiser - 0.375
* Lead children outpatient clinics - 0.250
* Lead directorate guideline development - 0.125
* Named doctor for safeguarding to the Trust- Total 2 PA. May share responsibility with another colleague.
* Designated doctor for death review - Total 2 PA. May share responsibility with another colleague.
* Designated doctor for Looked After Children (county-wide role) - Total 2 PA. May share responsibility with another colleague.
Person specification
Qualifications & Training
* Full GMC registration
* MRCPCH or equivalent
* Level 3 Safeguarding training
* At least 2 years general professional training in Paediatrics
* 5 years Higher Specialist Training, including 3 years in Community Paediatrics
* MD, PhD, MSc or other higher degree
* DCH, DCCH, MBA or other relevant diplomas
* CCT for Community Child Health or evidence of Level 3 competencies in Community Child Health
Knowledge and Experience
* Willing to work unsupervised and make decisions
* Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of Audit
* Understanding of management issues including medical discipline; clinical governance, service planning
* Willingness to lead service developments
* Formal training in teaching methods; demonstrated ability in teaching / training
* Demonstrated ability to manage e.g. project work; mentoring junior staff
* Completion of a management course

* Publications in recognised journals
* Formal research training; demonstrated ability to design a research or audit project
* Research projects relating to speciality
* Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively
